The day will be remembered more for what happened just before the game began. The Reds learned that first baseman Joey Votto had been voted by fans as an All-Star starter for the second straight year, the first time that's happened to a Cincinnati player since Barry Larkin in 1999-2000.
Joining him in the starting infield is Brandon Phillips, the first time a Reds second baseman has been voted to start since Joe Morgan in the 1970s. They became only the fifth set of teammates to start an All-Star game at first and second base.
