It seems like a perfect fit.

Phil loves the limelight and the attention. He would get plenty of that as the head coach of the most famous college basketball school in the land.

Phil lives in L.A. He would not even need to move.

Phil still loves coaching but the grinding and length of a 120 game NBA season is a great challenge to him at this time in his life. This could be perfect for him. He can go from 120 games a season down to 35 games a season.

Phil loves winning situations. He is not going to ever find another turn key championship situation ever again in the nba.College is perfect for a front runner like Phil. One great recruiting class and he has a national title contender in year 1.

Phil is all about legacy. What better why to grow your legacy without any risk of hurting your NBA legacy.

If he wins championships everyone will worship his greatness even more then they do now. If he flops at UCLA everyone will still say well he is still the greatest pro coach ever. I don't see the downside.
