Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys strike $55M extension

The Dallas Cowboys are taking care of Tony.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Friday that a long-term deal between the Cowboys and quarterback Tony Romo is "very close," according to a source involved in the process.
Todd Archer of ESPNDallas first reported the news.
The Cowboys have been talking with Romo's camp off and on after hoping to ink the 32-year-old passer to an extension last summer. As Rapoport reported Thursday, a clause in Romo's contract stipulated that Dallas could not franchise Romo if no deal was reached by the end of the 2013 league year, effectively making him a free agent. That handed significant leverage to Romo, but both sides obviously want to get a deal done.
Romo is set to count $16.8 million against the cap in 2013, but a long-term deal would allow the Cowboys to lower that figure and allow Dallas to add additional pieces to the puzzle.

Local radio in dfw says the $55 is guaranteed money. Not sure what the whole contract is, not that it matters if $55 is guaranteed

IRVING, Texas -- To clear salary-cap space and lock up their franchise quarterback, the Dallas Cowboys and Tony Romo reached an agreement on a blockbuster 6-year extension worth $108 million, making him the highest-paid player in franchise history, according to league sources.

Cowboys chief operating officer Stephen Jones and one of Romo's agents, CAA's R.J. Gonser, spent recent days negotiating the deal that contains more guaranteed money than the six-year, $120.6 million contract that Joe Flacco recently signed with Baltimore, sources said.

Romo received $55 million guaranteed from the Cowboys, $3 million more than what Flacco got from the Ravens.

As a 'Skins fan, I couldn't be more excited. Gives us a 12th man on defense for 2 games a year for a few more years.

Perfect, as long as he is the holder for extra points and field goals against the Seahawks.......maybe Paul Allen should pitch in some scrilla!!

I like Romo and I'd like to see any quarterback in the league do a better job WITH the team, mainly offensive line and defense, he had last two years.

Im not saying he is best qb in league or anything like that. But with receivers that don't know the plays, a line that can't block, running backs that can't stay healthy, and that defense they have rolled out there the last couple years it's pretty amazing the cowboys even had a chance at the playoffs in the last game of the season the last two years

It doesn't hurt that Romo had Jerry by the balls on this contract either. Cowboys had to re-up Tony if they want any money to spend in free agency. They were writing "I owe you's" to will Allen and Stewart

flacco's contract has let the floodgates open.

none of these QB's are worth anywhere close to their money.
