I dont know if the title makes any sense but im starting a side business where I need the ability to take a digital picture then upload that picture to a personal URL website with FTP to be able to be viewed by hundreds of people.

I have no idea how to do this.
Whats a good book I can read on FTP and web design?

I know how to do what im talking about for facebook and twitter but I need to be able to do it with my own website with a bunch of sub directories where you need a password for each directory.

Example

www.choptalk/jones
www.choptalk/smith
www.choptalk/davis

Each link above would require a separate password to view the contents.

I also need the ability for the people going to the sublinks to have the ability to download the images from my website to there facebook/twitter/email/computer etc...

Or am I just better off hiring someone?

And what would it cost for me to get this all setup?

Thanks

Only need about 30 to 40 gigs of storage.

Will constantly be deleting material after its been on the site for 30 days and replaced with new stuff.

Just create 4 or 5 separate Photobucket accounts man http://photobucket.com .. 2gb for free accounts 20gb for $1.99 (per month for premium) can do more storage if needed too. (set privacy pwds/etc)

Or use dropbox/etc type of file storing site.

Could I avoid using an FTP by doing this?

I am not sure they have an auto updating source from your camera to them.. but if you take the time to upload then you can have most of this dream website for low to no cost. They have a desktop app however that does allow for "drag and drop of 100s of pics at once" OR it auto uploads them to your account you choose kind of like sync style.

never really understood what FTP is for

Its basically the bridge between your computer and your website.
Its how you transfer files to and from the 2.
