First off, I don't follow baseball much but I'm gonna do some research today because I got my auction tomorrow night. My friend/goon is going to be doing the drafting/running the team but I still would like to solicit some opinion.

It is 5x5 weekly and probably going to be about 10 teams.

Any and all opinions appreciated.

Wth a 10 team league, you should be able to pick up plenty of decent players during the season on the waiver wire for a buck. I don't know a lot about auction, but figure out a handful of players you want and don't be afraid to go after them (within reason of course). There are so many sites out there with $ values that it's overwhelming so you won't lack for information. I guess one strategy is to nominate players for bid that you don't want with the hope that other members will bid or even over bid on them potentially giving you an edge for the guys you do want. While you want to spend your money wisely, don't underspend or else you'll have tons of money at the end that you don't really need to bid on cheaper players. But what do I know?

General thoughts - go after 1 or perhaps 2 stud outfielders as the position doesn't appear to be as deep as you would think. 2nd base and ss are pretty shallow so if you don't land someone in the top two tiers you might as well buy on the cheap. IMO not a bad idea to grab at least 1 and possibly 2 stud pitchers. Good luck!

Off topic: I think you posted about that Chad Millman podcast on daily fantasy leagues. What struck me was that Millman was whining/complaining that these fantasy sites appear to be legal as opposed to betting on sports. Bothered me. The guy who won big in football was from somewhere around Boston. Were you the lucky one? I play at fanduel on occasion. GL!

Nah he is from Colorado, moved to Boston to work at the site. I know him a little.

Road Seahawks D in week 13 or whatever to 150K. I agree with Millman though re: Sports Betting. There is no reason fantasy betting should be legal and sports betting shouldn't. Glad you liked the Pod though, I think Millman has a new one up with some expert on MLB season win totals so I'm gonna listen to that later tonight when I get a chance.

For season totals, check out Joe Peta. I think he's under tradingbases.com . Great write ups and predictions.

With ten teams, there will be plenty of good players to pick up on the waiver wire. I would focus on power throughout the beginning of the draft as this is the most scarce tool in the MLB now. Don't worry about steals in the beginning, there will be steals available on the waiver wire, and a guy like Ben Revere, who has been hyped above, is available in the 13-14th round of your draft and swiped 40 bags last year. Pitchers I like this year are Cole Hamels and Max Scherzer.
