This is my first year betting with a different local for baseball. And this is an old school local that's been around for like, 35 years or so taking action. Anyway, I've yet to bet a baseball game with him but I do know that when he gives the lines on MLB games, he quotes it old style. "Texas 7.5 to 5...."

So my question is, and please forgive me for the dopey question lol, how do I give him my wager? By that I mean, when betting football or basketball, it's easy. I just bet small, but when I do, I say, "let me have Dallas +3, 22/20" (meaning risking 22 to win 20 obviously.)

But how do I take Houston tonight? Do I just assume it's a dime off for the dog and say, "give me Houston, 20/26?", since it would be 5 to win 6.5 while Texas is favored 7.5 to win 5?

I mean, I realize I can just ask the guy when I call, but I didn't want to sound like a dumb kid lol. I've been betting MLB for 20 years but never dealt with a guy quoting lines like that so I thought I'd ask you guys to see if I would be doing right. Thanks!

not sure a local will be using a dime line.....my dad used to have a sheet he wrote down from his guy, that would have every line for the favorite, and the equal for the dog.....

but yeah, what you are saying is right, "if" the dog is the 5 to get 6.5, you would say give me 20 to win 26 on houston......or you'd say give me 30 to win 20 on Texas.....but ask him if its a simple dime line he's using, or catch him at an off time, and get the opp pays for all the prices from him, and keep it handy when betting....he may even have some run off copies, that he'll give you one......

Obviously by me saying " dime off" on the 7.5 to 5 and then assuming 5 to win 6.5 it's actually not a dimeline since it would be minus 150 and plus 130 so I should have stated that better. Thanks again!

np, wish i still had mine, but then again, he prob uses different amounts.....i do remember for some reason, if fave was 13/20, the dog was 13/10.....not sure how that equates as far as being "dime line" or what...
