One of my best friends graduated from law school 6 months ago. Still no job and over 200k in debt (i've read a lot of stories like his as well). Working in financial services I know a ton of lawyers that are down right miserable with their day to day work. Just because of the fact about job prospects alone I would say Medical. Plus the nature of the work is more satisfying.

To do either one you really have to have a deep love for either the law or science. Too many people jump into these degrees for name recognition alone.

I guess you could throw MBA into the discussion as well, which I would rank last of the three

THIS, obviously not everyone an be an engineer......or a doctor.....and not even a lawyer (I would absolutely hate to be on confrontational mode all the time.....not everyone can see each case as a mini-war where you get paid to win with whatever idea/ploy/scheme you can come up with)

if your can be a great doctor be a doctor, if you can be a great engineer be an engineer , the problem is when you want to become an expert in Polynesian culture, end up 100k in debt and THEN you have to pay back , at this point I suppose it would have been best to be more realistic but at age 17 .....its hard to think about these things in a clear way unless your parents are really on the spot and help you make a good/informed decision

about politics , you are onto something here and if you keep thinking about it , the world we see is ......what happens when you let lawyers etc make the rules about EVERYTHING .......and by that I mean, mostly things they don't have the slightest clue ........

Talking pure money Law degree but its competitive.
The poorest doctor makes more money then the poorest lawyer, but the richest lawyer makes more then the richest doctor.

Very true & after graduating law school you still have to pass the bar. Wife's grandson just graduated LAW SCHOOL failed the bar &
took menial jobs for a year before he landed a nice job, not in law.

Computer Science, you can literally have your pick of position, signing bonus, stock options, location and pay. 15 -20 years on the job and you can either retire or open up a small dream biz. Many microsofties run the gamut of small business ventures, from Thrift shops to bars.

My best friend, also the smartest person I know both book and street smart, is a tax attorney. He got his bachelors, then law school, and then tax law school. Not sure what he makes, but do know he pays $855 a month in student loans, I figure he makes around $80 or so a year but he has only been out of school for 4-5 years. He will make serious money eventually, I have no doubt.......his wife is a family law attorney, which came in handy for me last year

Not saying everyone can do it and succeed but you do NOT have to go to Law School to take the bar exam.

The reason I ask this is that everyone high up in the sports field...these days it seems...agents, GMs board members....all seem to have a law degree. Or at least they should. And in politics, I live in Detroit. Our ex mayor just got convicted of 20 felonies including Rico charges and racketeering. I went to the trial a few times downtown. So I learned of a lot of the power people in the city. The mayor..(Kilpatrick), city counsel members, 2hand guys behind the scenes..all have a law degree. Just seems to me....that having a law degree can really open some doors for you if you plan your path correctly. Not sure I'd enjoy the medical field degree as much. I guess the law degree is a more public sort of degree to have where a medical ...not so much. Unless you a dr. Oz or someone like that. Dr. Phil...he's another with a law degree. I'm too old now but if I was just starting out again and the choice was presented to me...with what I know now....I think I'd chose a law degree. Seems corporations and tax firms all need an attorney on staff.

Not sure if this is true or not so correct me if I'm wrong, but I was told a long time ago that a lot of the professional referees, officials etc, have law degrees/backgrounds

i'd only go to a law school if you can get into a good one....a lot of what lawyers do is becoming more of a commodity...wages for many are falling (still good money dont get me wrong)

I'd say go for med school of those two, but not sure any of them are worth it when you factor in lost wages, debt incurred, etc. if you can get a good solid job with advancement potential out of college

Medical but there are different degrees to medical....Are we talking nurse practioner or we talking neurosurgeon?

With law degrees, you have a ton of debt with no guarantees. Look how many attorneys end up with some BS bankruptcy practice or out of work all together. World is cluttered with attorneys yet there are less and less Dr.'s now because of a certain dumbass and Medicare cuts.

If you are going to get in to law, you better have great transcripts at a great law school, be a part of all the important clubs and contacts, have a great clerkship and all of that or you will likely be on the outside looking in.

My niece just graduated from Stanford Law and got a job at a NYC firm that apparently pays well but has her working 80 hours a week. I suppose it depends in which area of the country that you live, but I would say MBA, Medical and then Law...just based on personal experience. I agree there are more opportunites for the average graduate in medicine than law. I know plenty of lawyers working for less than many persons with their bachelors only, and I have a bias toward law, as took the LSAT and was ready to go to law school til a guy derailed me and I ended up with a Paralegal degree. Medicine is not for everyone however. If I had to do it over at my age, I would probably still lean toward law because that is my passion, but if I was advising someone else, I would tell them to get an MBA unless they had a particular affinity for one discipline.

part of what is wrong with this country is most people think you go to school to get a piece of paper and with that paper you are entitled to job

a degrees worth is determined by the holder of the degree, not the other way around.

it's like asking what is the ace of diamonds is worth in poker... it's worth nothing if you are holding 4 clubs, but worth everything if you are holding the 3 other aces...
