Tonight we've got the hapless Yankees, who can't hit, who have more money tied up in the injured payroll then half of the NL East, facing Boston who has lit them up twice in a row. Line is moving hard toward Boston because the Yankees suck. Right?
Well I don't think so. Not tonight.
Dempster is on the hill for Boston tonight, and has been awful ever since he became a member of the DH League. Not just a little awful, but really awful. His last start of the Spring wasn't any better, giving up 3 runs/4 hits/4bb in 4 vs Minnesota. I look for him to be pressing a little tonight, as he's on baseball's biggest stage pitching in baseball's oldest rivalry. When Dempster is on he throws a heavy ball, but when he's off, he's up - and the balls leave the park. Not good in the Bronx, with the wind blowing out to left.
On the other side you have Pettitte, who may win the Jamie Moyer award for pitching past his prime. BUT - he knows how to pitch. And like Doc showed last night in Atlanta, if you know how to pitch you can be effective. Halliday last night lost, but gave up 3 runs in the 1st inning, throwing 40 pitches, before striking out 5 of the next 6. By the 4th he was at 80 pitches and gassed, and didn't make it through the inning. But he showed that a guy who knows how to pitch, even with no stuff that night, can be effective. Look for the same with Pettiette tonight. He's always been a big game pitcher, and the Yankees need a win.
Play tonight is Yankees -115 for 1 unit
