[h=1]It ain’t peanuts: Yankees game is $337 for family of four[/h]

Yankee fans are getting beaned in the bank account.

A family of four can expect to shell out a whopping $337.20 for a day at the ballpark — the second-highest bill among all baseball teams, according to a new report.

Once considered affordable entertainment for the entire clan, America’s pastime has gone from bleachers and peanuts to $4.50 sodas and $35 parking.

Yankee Stadium sticker shock includes four tickets at the average price of $51.55, two $6 beers, four $3 hot dogs, $35 for parking, a couple of $5 programs, two hats at $25 each, and four $3 soft drinks, according to research company Team Marketing Report.

“It’s gotten outrageous,” said Jim Joels, 58, of Hillsborough, NJ, who attended last night’s game with his girlfriend and their two kids. “Because of the costs, we can only do it a couple of times a year.”

Bomber boosters can take solace knowing reviled Red Sox fans are shelling out the most in the league for a trek to Fenway Park — a clan of four pays $337.80.

Over in Flushing, a Met-loving family will pay $223, the 11th-most expensive tab in the league.

While second in overall cost, the Yankees lead the league in the price of parking and hats.

The highest stadium prices don’t always correspond with championship results — the hapless Chicago Cubs rounded out the top three at $298.20 per family, according to the report.

The Mets and Yankees did not return requests for comment.

“There’s a breaking point for fans,” said Will Flaherty of the online ticket-price-comparison Web site SeatGeek. “There is an upper limit. These prices can’t go up forever — the tickets, the concessions. When there are so many other entertainment options available, people will just stay at home at a certain point.”

Despite increasing fan fatigue with high ballpark costs, 14 franchises saw their average family-visit price increase this season, according to the study.

Red's games are pretty affordable.

I also like to spend the afternoon in Cincinnati, some nice museums, zoo, etc...

I take my son to the trip in ST. Pete...

Can usually do the whole thing for a 20 spot, parking and food included. Labor Day 2011 I did it for 5// he was just turning 6- I parked my car on street, got a 5 dollar ticket outside and walked him in on my shoulders. They let you bring in your own peanuts and drink boxes.

You can get game tickets for as low as $19.20-$27.80. http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/ticketing/singlegame.jsp?c_id=nyy&y=2013 Granted they aren't up close and personal but they are using an overall average price of tickets from the 2012 season. http://www.kshb.com/dpp/sports/base...ice--fan-cost-index-for-all-30-baseball-teams

You can get parking for $25 on several surface lots near the stadium as well. http://baseball-parking.com/Parking-Rates/

Don't buy the programs or the hats and there is $60 saved. Save $10 more on parking and get $27.80 seats and there is another $103.20 saved. So now you've saved $163.20 off the total and you have
a today of $174 spent. Not to mention that if you are getting 4 soft drinks one for each, then you can remove the $12 in beer cost or just get 2 softdrinks and knock off $6.

That puts you in the $162-$168 range.

Sounds much more affordable now.

If you have kids it would be a once a year thing with prices nowadays

You are allowed taking a cooler in i believe, as long as drinks are not opened(no alcohol). I think bleacher seats are $8. So maybe not to bad

The Fan Cost Index comprises the prices of four adult average-price tickets, two small draft beers, four small soft drinks, four regular-size hot dogs, parking for one car, two game programs and two least expensive, adult-size adjustable caps. Costs were determined by telephone calls with representatives of the teams, venues and concessionaires. Identical questions were asked in all interviews.

I think not buying a baseball cap there would the right thing to do... I'm already wearing my cap to the ball park.

but as far as Seats go.... If I'm not in a box seat, ground level ... Why bother going ??
dont get me wrong, I have sat in higher seats in the past... Like maybe 20 years ago...

I agree on seats BAS, but for the family aspect of it, I think the everyday typical family couldn't afford to go in the first place. The more well off, or well to do family can.

Those families living pay day to pay day if they were going to go as a 1 time thing would go the cheapest route possible and there's a way for them to do it in my example.

Is that for Trop seats ?? Regular season ??
That's for a regular season Rays game. Best seats are uppers IMO- they are like 12 bucks sat with Barman for a game up there. Years ago went to Cincy and sat in the upper 4 or some crap for 4 bucks. Old tiger stadium basically let you in for free.

can't beat the $1 snacks

I have to get peanuts every time I go to the ball game. Tradition that my grand grand father started.

I don't understand how people in New York can afford so much...On another thread, BAS was telling someone it would costs 50 bucks or so to park his car. Pure craziness.
