You hear a lot of so called "basketball experts" call him one of the league's best and this and that but I just don't see it. Sure, this guy has been scoring a ton of points lately. Sure, when he's hot, he's a good shooter but will he ever win an NBA Championship?

I say "no way." The guy can't play defense. The guy is selfish as hell, has a bad attitude and is not committed to anything.

I'd take 25 guys on a team over this idiot.

I don't know about 25 though. He did win an NCAA title as a freshman and is about to win a scoring title.

Don't care about what he did in college or if he wins a scoring title. Yeah, but maybe not 25. That is an irresponsible number. My fault.

Yinka Dare was a good college player as well.

carmelo's job is to score, not play defense, and he's arguably the best at that in the game.

Only player since Jordan 91-92 to score 40+ 3 straight games on 60% shooting. Not to mention dropping 50 without a single shoot inside of 15 ft. Just saying.

Last time I checked playing defense is 50% of his job. I agree he is a top 3 scorer but doesn't play d.

no its not. they got him to score, not be a defender. defending takes energy away from his offensive game. i dont watch the knicks, but i assume they play him on bad offensive players of the opposing team. the other players can play D.

it goes the same way the other way as well. you have players who only play defense and dont play any offense, like a chuck hayes or kenneth faried, who's job is to block shots, get rebounds, and give the ball to the scorer.

this is simple basketballl strategy, that confuses you guys that easily?

I said 25 was irresponsible Pat.

Durant
Bryant
LBJ
Wade
Westbrook
CP3
Tony Parker
Harden
D. Will
Aldridge

There are 10 guys that play better defense and average roughly six points less per game. I'd take six less points over a guy that can't play defense and is a mental midget.

I'm not saying he's the best at anything... but yeah, he's all about Offense and his numbers.

I made this wager a while ago.... Just for a Shot... I liked the price at the time

Most players are in the league because they excel at 1-2 things at the expense of others. He may be the one player in the east that could carry his team over the Heat in a playoff.

Over the course of his career, Carmelo hasn't carried anyone or anything.

Watch Carmelo in the 4th quarter of a close game and then say he doesn't play D... He's obviously a scorer first but he plays lock D when he has to.

the guy has a lightning quick shot, has great range, unbelievably strong in the post, can rebound when he needs to

So, you're saying he only plays hard sometimes or when he wants to? I'd love to have a player like that on my team. He plays when he needs to LOL.

I don't love that he only plays defense some of the time... OOf course I wish he would do everything all the time. But it's worth the trade off IMO

Why is that funny? I'd say 80% of the NBA plays better defense than Anthony.

It just is man. It isn't even close...Have you seen those guys play? Have you seen D Will play this year? Trust me nobody is swapping him for Anthony.

And I didn't mention this immediately in this thread because I was waiting for someone else to but Anthony actually is very underrated defensively from a versatility standpoint. He has played out of position defensively this year and held his own at PF, this has allowed the Knicks to have a stylistic mismatch every night with him playing the 4. It has been a big advantage, why do you think they win over 2/3rds of their games when he is in the lineup? Do you think JR Smith is an all star or something? Ray Felton? I mean look at their team, Amare is basically dead and they are 49-26. With Melo in the lineup they are 43-20.

Unless you are playing a team with an all star PF, it is tough for teams with 2 bigs to play against NYK because of Anthony's ability to do that. A lot of times they sit 1 down the stretch so now their lineup is far from what they would consider optimal.
