Wednesday: 2-1 (one game pending- will give YTD later Thursday)

White Sox. ML (+147) 2 units. Dan Haren might have a semi-dead arm. His velocity is down to about 88, and his off speed pitches seem to be much less effective when his velocity is down. He had a lousy second half last year, a poor spring and gave up 4 HRs last start. The White Sox have seen enough of him to know what to look for, and teams seem to capitalize on his mistakes easily when he is not on his game. The Nats haven't seen Axelrod, who pitches to contact, but is able to keep opponents from big innings. Take out one horrendous start to Toronto last year, and he had a decent ERA as a starter. Both the Nats and White Sox are hitting fairly well, though I think Chicago maybe a little better overall this year. Both bullpens are solid.

Seattle-1 (+104). Two units. The Mariners season started out promising, and is now looking much less so. Felix Hernandez knows that Thursday's game is a big one. It is up to him to give his team hope, as usual. For the past many years, he has won games like this, and has broken losing streaks. Texas travels to Seattle, and sends out a starter, Justin Grimm, who had a terrible spring(9.64 ERA), and also pitched poorly upon being called up last year. Seattle hasn't hit as expected, but they definitely have a much stronger lineup. A young pitcher, who depends a lot on his fastball, might be just the ticket to break out. Texas has played well this year, but much of that has been their good pitching. Grimm would be in AA if not for Harrison's injury.

Baltimore. ML (+110). One unit. Chris Tillman, last year, usually had a game like his last start, but followed it up with a quality one. He pitched well against Boston and in Fenway. He has good stuff, but can have that one bad inning that gets him in trouble. Aceves is all-around trouble. He is a head case that repeatedly pisses off teammates and coaches. I almost feel like his teammates are hoping he pitches poorly so he will get waived or traded. (well… probably not) His 2 relief appearances were just like his spring- bad. He also finished last season giving up 13 runs in his last 10 IPS. Aceves won't go deep into the game, and it is going to be up to the Sox middle relief to keep it close. Baltimore is hitting fairly well, and after crushing the Sox closer, Hanrahan, tonight, should be feeling their oats. It looks like the Orioles bullpen might have the edge.
