Is he golf's greatest underachiever? Certainly in my lifetime, he is. That much talent and one major ? He led wire to wire in '98, and blew it . 2006 hit better than anyone tee to green, gave it away on the greens. Then there's The Open Championship near misses....

big fan....GL today Boom Boom. Give urself a shot come Sunday. 53 yrs young and still hits it a country mile....

Indeed, then there's the 4-5 footers- the putting stroke can get painful to watch . Lets hope both the back and stroke can last 4 days

one last run at it?

He has had major back problems.
Yep, his back has always been a cronic problem for him or else he would have won many more tournaments. He saves himself in the spring by not playing many other tournaments just so he can play in the Masters. He still has to withdraw from tournaments at least two or three times a year because his back starts acting up. Believe me I know the feeling. When my back acts up I have trouble just getting out of a chair. It's why I always root for the guy. He deserved better in his career with his talent.

Couples had a good interview with the ESPN Crew at the end of his round yesterday. He stated he was very confident playing Augusta because he had a good feel where to hit shots that keeps him out of trouble. If only he could make a few of those Eagle Putts where he tends to leave the ball short of the hole at times.

I got it about 2am this morning right after i heard that interview that Boland posted about. He said his back felt as good as it has in 20 years and he hasnt had any trouble with it in awhile....That made it worth the $5 to me..
I actually opened it up to see what the odds were on Tiger and ended up getting screwed on that . Pinny had him 5-1, SportBet was 4-1 and i ended up at Bovada and really didnt look closely i guess as i got only 3-1 there.:wtfbbq:

I root for couples every year. Hope he doesn't start to fade in the later rounds.

I have never played more than 2 consecutive days of golf but personally on day 2 i'm dying....i cannot imagine playing 4 days consecutively at that high level AND at his age

I would love to see him do it. He is as good of person as there is in pro sports. I always like to see someone like him pull off the miracle.

I always root for the geezers when they go up against the young studs. Something tells me Freddie will be in this one till the end. Much like Tom Watson a few years ago at the British Open. The warmer weather should help Freddie's back.
