Smart is dumb. The projected 2nd or 3rd pick of a weak draft is staying in school for another year.

Right now he would be the 2nd or 3rd pick in one of the weakest drafts in NBA history.

There is no chance on him improving that position by staying.
Next years draft is loooooooooooooaaadeeeeeeeeeeeed!! As Ron White would say.
He could win NCAA player of the year and he still would not crack the top 3 in next years draft.

With Parker, Wiggins, and Randle in next years draft he will be lucky to crack the top 5 and thats if he has a great season next year.

No way I'd turn down millions. Those guys could go back to finish education when they retire at the old age of 35. If they are lucky enough to play that long

Maybe not the smartest move for this particular kid but hey, he's going to get better before he gets run over in the league.

I think it's kind of refreshing. Didn't hurt Andrew Luck at all but did hurt Barkley.

We are not talking about Andrew Luck here, come on now.

just trying to throw in an 'upside' to that decision... he could improve, learn & develop more and have a better NBA career, than coming out early, not being able to cut it, considered a bust and lose confidence.

Being 2nd or 3rd pick doesnt guarantee a long career. Good for the kid, go enjoy college life, work on your craft and get better.

Even if he gets better and even if his grade goes up he will still drop to the bottom part of next years lottery due to the fact that he is going from being in the worst draft in recent history to going into the best draft in recent history

THat may be why he decided to stay....didnt want to land on a shit team and lose 50+ games for 3 years. I dont think he is an elite player and would quickly be labeled a bust on a bad team ruining his career. Now he might have a chance to shine and learn on a good team. Im sure the easy pussy in college factored in too...it beats spending money on high priced escorts.

way too early to call this a dumb move imo.

If you are only basing the decision on money then probably yes, but there are other factors to consider. He will improve, have more experience, get stronger, most likely go to a better team, enjoy another year of college life....

The biggest risk is injury not losing a little money up front.

But he will be able to become better which will extend his career. Its not about the first contract but the second

Where do people get the idea that a player can get better in college then they can in the NBA.
They can become more NBA ready if they stay in college but they wont get better 365 days later playing in college then they would playing in the NBA.

Wtf else is there? How stupid do you have to be when scouts tell you are going #2.

He would be the strongest point guard in the NBA today. How much better of a team would he be on? He can improve for pay in the league.

i think its a poor choice....he can negotiate with the nba team to pay for his college ....if an injury or he just sucks in the nba were to happen...so he could always go back to the college life...

I agree he should of went this year, just trying to see the other side. If your looking at just upfront money then he made the wrong move. But look at Darko, guy was #2 overall pick, he is 27 years old and already out of the NBA after 6 years, played only 1 game last season. Considered a bust but made good money. Maybe if he developed his game more before going pro he could of lasted longer
