Don’t bet on Internet gambling cafes lasting too long in the city.

Cops have been cracking down on the unlicensed industry, and the City Council is weighing a bill to help stomp out the illicit business.

Since November, the NYPD has shut down nine Internet cafes on gambling charges and arrested eight people involved, according to testimony yesterday at a council committee hearing.

Councilmen Lew Fidler and Jumaane Williams are pushing the bill, which would require that the city snatch the license of any such cafe found to be promoting illegal gambling.

“They masquerade as Internet cafes when, in reality, they are more like mini-casinos,” Williams said.
