Weak...but nice by Reno standards I suppose.

They only had 1 bj table with a shoe in the entire place on a Thursday night.
The book is decent.

My wife is big on making sure the bed is clean.....ours had hairs all over the place. Moved us to another room-AC was out. Finally moved to another room by 2 and had to catch a plane at 6.
Bad experience.

Have only had good experiences at the Peppermill. You will need a car if you want to explore other parts of the Reno/Sparks area. Tahoe is also a short drive away. The Atlantis casino is across the street from the Peppermill. You can walk there quite easily.

I remember walking into the Pepper Mill in Las Vegas super late one time and it was dark as hell in the place. I remember seeing a bunch of people eating and I turned around to leave and a guy stopped me and handed me a tin of Peppermill Playing Cards. I still have the tin but not the cards. Matter of fact I have the tin in front of me. Peppermill Nevada and it lists Las Vegas, Reno, Mesquite and Wendover. The finest name in gaming.

I keep all of my casino cards in it and various room keys I have saved throughout the years.

best spot in reno, great book (own lines) not afraid of action & good sports crowd. good food too. this and the atlantis (short walk) is all you need, avoid downtown like the plague.

Curious to know whats bad about downtown?

I've never been.

Downtown is not bad at all. Felt safe there at all times and it has a lot of character and history (at one point Harrah's in Reno had more slots than any other casino in the world). Many of the casinos downtown are connected through a pedway so you don't even have to go outside. Especially nice in the summer - the AAA Reno Aces play at a beautiful ballpark downtown. The All-Star game is there this year.

i have to agree with you as when you stray off fremont street it can be a bit trashy and dark, probably some places you don't want to be if you don't know your way around

have not been to Reno in many years, plan to go back there next year sometime between 1st part of January to end of April. Anybody have any opinions if any of this time is a worse than other to visit? Will definitely be going to lake Tahoe too.

I've never been.

simply put, downtown is utterly depressing. dirty empty streets outside of vagrants and all the casinos (except maybe two) are decrepit. just a horrible, eerie vibe down there.

let's put it this way, downtown vegas is like the taj mahal compared to downtown reno.

if you have to be in reno, the only 3 possible places to visit are peppermill, atlantis, and nugget.

but if you can avoid reno entirely, head to south lake tahoe instead - it's gorgeous there plus there's casinos & books.

Peppermill is my favorite spot in Reno. You will be comped good there, the sportsbook is independent and you will find lots of good lines that haven't moved. They have a lot more tables than before as they just recently remodeled and the poker room is awesome + you will be tracked for comps on sports bets and poker play. Atlantis is just down the street where they have 8 cent baseball dime lines for Hockey. The Sports book is a pretty nice one there too, better then most of the ones in Vegas. Yeah tahoe's better on the eyes, but if you want to gamble stay away from Tahoe. Tahoes where you go if you want to ski. The BJ rules in Tahoe are absolutely horrendous. The rooms have been remodeled recently too and are pretty nice now. Make sure you get a players card there.

The thing with downtown is that California busses all their trash here for free to get out of paying them welfare (one way tickets only), and the greyhound drops a new batch off every weekend, I try to stay away from downtown, cause the over all vibe sucks. Atlantis or Peppermill is the way to go if you come out here.
