I am not computer savy. Looking for a laptop, I use for surfing and basic Microsoft programs. I don't watch movies or download items. Very basic stuff. Any suggestions?
Also, do I have to buy microsoft software separately?
Mac book or Dell? Had a Dell for about 4 years and shot the bed last night.

Thanks

A friend suggested a MacBook ($1200), I would prefer not to spend too much, but if that is what people suggest, I will do so.

No specific price range, but more about value for a basic user like myself.

No reason for a macbook if all you're doing is surfing the net and using MS office. With a macbook, you'd have to use google docs instead of Microsoft products, or you could dual boot it, but you stated you're not computer savvy.

I'd suggest a chromebook.. it's about $250 and good for a basic user who is connected to google. No ms office though, you'd be using google docs. BUT it's very simple and easy to use

Or any Asus laptop. I prefer that over Dell and a macbook any day.

dont waste your money man.. macs = wack puff_>> ...besides if your used to Microsoft this will be a huge change as they are complete opposites.

for your most basic needs, you should absolutely not spend more than $500 max (assuming you want a 13" or 15" screen). there are a ton of great closeouts right now on ivy bridge computers since the new intel chip is about to come out. best PC makers are samsung, asus, and lenovo.

Sony Vaio with Windows 7 without a doubt. Spend the extra $ if you got it. Its worth. Opens fast and never crashes. Acer is cheap and a waste of money if you ask me. I cheaped out and bought one and regretted it. Night and day between an Acer and Sony.
