No plays Tuesday

Matt Harvey. You might disagree and it's debatable, but name someone who is on his game as well as Harvey is. Here's the stat that tells me how dominating he is: 29 IPs, 10 hits. In the majors that's not easy to do. You have some hot hitters, some bad bounces, some slow fielders, and well there's 3-4 hits right there. Anyways, Harvey's demeanor and mechanics have changed so much so this year that scouts have been impressed. He does not ever seem to be rattled or look as if he's in trouble with men on base, although there are few men that have been on base. In his last start, vs. Strasburg, there media and fans were out en force, but Harvey clearly looked the veteran even though he had the slimmest of leads. The Dodgers have hit only .237 vs. RHP but .287 vs. LHP. They have exactly one HR in the past week, and the Mets bullpen is much improved. Ted Lily is coming off of 2 poor rehab starts at AAA. His arm strength may not be there, and he may be pitching here because of his $12 million salary, and Chris Capuano's injury. With Billingsley's season ending injury, there is a pall over the Dodgers right now, and Harvey's pitching won't cheer them up. The Mets are 9-9, but a little better at home and right now are 2nd in the NL in OPS vs. LHP. They have a decent lineup and lifetime these Met hitters are .310 vs. Lily- and that was the "good" Lily.
Mets -1 (-106) 4 units.

Harvey is legit.

I'm just a little weary that the dodgers powerful bat's have finally woken up.

In their last wins, they beat up 2 guys in the Mets bullpen and Jake Arrieta of the Orioles, a guy who is wildly inconsistent. Before that their bats were fairly silent in their doubleheader loss and series vs. SD.

He has to be legit laying a 162 to a pre season favorite. He has pitched well. Have backed him three times and watched him twice. I like him in this position as well, but definitely agree with laying the run to bring the juice down. Good luck OF.

SF Giants-1 (-104) 2 units. Until they got to righty Cain Tuesday, and Matt Cain right now stinks, the D-Backs were hitting .194 vs. LHP. Bumgarner is one of the best, and is especially good in inducing ground balls, DPs, Strike outs and very tough with men on base. He can deep into the game too. Arizona, prior to Tuesday only had 24 runs in their past 7 games(hitting .227), and some of that was vs. Rockies pitching, Ivan Nova, etc. Arizona, every year, seems to have hitting issues on road trips, then go home and start slugging. Another reason I like this is that Ian Kennedy does not have the cool, calm demeanor of Bumgarner with men on base. He doesn't really have one really good out pitch, and is a fly ball pitcher. In 2011, when he had his great numbers, he also had a better defense behind him. Right now, I think he's an average pitcher who doesn't know it, and gets frustrated when he doesn't pitch as well as he thinks he should. Giants have a bullpen edge and home field edge.

Ny Mets -1/2 (-105) One unit. First 5

Baltimore ML (+125) Orioles pitcher Josh Stinson has done one thing really well in the minors- induce grounders and keep hitters from hitting the long ball. The Blue Jays are a swing for the fences kind of team, and seem to be swinging "up" on pitches that should be just connected on. This is the kind of pitcher that could give them fits. That's also why they whiff often and are the kings of solo homers. It's almost like Baltimore saw this as a perfect fit for Stinson and the team he's pitching against, and why he was called up. I also learned my lesson betting against Pettibone of the Phillies Monday night. Petttibone was awful all year, all spring, WBC, you name it- then comes up and pitches very well in his debut. I am going to look long and hard playing on the new pitchers in their debut. Already have, but even more so. Brandon Morrow has the stuff for excellence, but no fire. The Mariners could see that he was a head case, and non-competitive in their farm system and that's why a promising young pitcher was traded for Brandon League. Also, many of the hitters in today's lineup have had success vs. Morrow- especially Jones, Betemit, Markakis. In 144 ABs, 8 HRs from batters that should play today. Orioles always tough at home, better manager, decent bullpen.. enough said.
