Detroit Michigan is home to Motown which has given us such great soul and R&B artists as Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Supremes, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross and The Jackson Five. The hits that will be coming out of Motown tonight however are ones the Atlanta Braves hope are few in number. This interleague matchup will be the first between Detroit and Atlanta in three years and both teams come in with a 5-5 Last 10 record. Maholm is 3-1 1.03 ERA and had worked 25 scoreless innings before having his streak broken by Pittsburgh last weekend. This was the longest scoreless streak since Luis Tiant in 1966. Maholm looks to bear down again on a Tigers offense who hits .319 with 6.3 runs per game at Comerica Park but only batting .207 with 14 runs scored during a 1-5 skid. Cabrera has a nine game hit streak going batting. 409 and is .319 vs. Maholm. Fielder however is 7 for 51 vs. Atlanta with only a .137 average and 15 K's. Sanchez is 2-1 1.75 ERA and has 17 outings vs. Atlanta the second most of any opponent. Sanchez was 4-11 5.42 ERA as a Marlin in this matchup and a 7.92 ERA in his last five outings vs. Atlanta. Sanchez has however not allowed a HR in 25 2/3 Innings Pitched and will be challenged tonight against a Braves lineup that has belted 35 HR's on the season. Justin Upton has hit 11 HR's and looks to become the Braves Franchise leader in HR's for the month of April if he can go deep tonight. The Atlanta Bull Pen had a let down last time out but still has a 1.60 ERA in relief and question are still surrounding the Tigers relievers also after a recent letdown. Detroit does have a 11-7 Interleague Record in 2012 going 6-3 at home so tonight Maholm and Atlanta will have to limit the hits that are coming out of Motown if they want to stay Number One on the charts.
