Friday: 3-4-1, -.22 units. I'm still not getting hardly any easy wins, which is most concerning. Should have won the Dodgers game, but got a bit lucky in the Tampa game.

Phillies RL (-103) 3 units
Phillies ML (-223) One unit. That doomed team is the Marlins. The owner is a meddling idiot who uses this team only to pad his pocket and boost his ego. He's such a fool though that he doesn't realize that the whole sports world is laughing at him or reviles him. In fact, his own team reviles him. Poor Jose Fernandez. This young kid, who is now looking like he is NOT ready for the majors, gets forced into the rotation in place of Nolasco, basically telling his manager he is a puppet, and taking away any respect Redmond's players might have for him. Redmond should have told Loria to go f#@& himself, thereby escaping the madhouse or staying and keeping his players respect. Fernandez is now becoming a 4 inning pitcher, with control issues, and very raw in the field, and in handling the whole circus. Not even pitching in AA is a mistake. AA is where a young pitcher sees very good hitters, and learns the game the way it's played in the majors. The Phils have scouting reports on him, and faced him earlier in the year. With all the nonsense going on around him, I don't expect this young kid to be completely focused.

The Phils hit RHP much better than lefties, and after Cliff Lee called the out the whole team after the debacle in Cleveland, I think we'll see a great effort here at home vs. Miami. Hamels has 4 straight excellent starts vs. Miami, and is looking sharp in his last starts. Ryan Howard is hot, and Miami slugger Stanton is on the DL. Going back 2-3 weeks I can't find one game where the Marlins got to a lefty starter, and have a miserable .337 slugging pct. vs. LHP.

Twins ML (-102). One unit. The Indians will never have a long winning streak with their starting pitching. The Twins have been hitting pretty well and much of it vs. good pitching. Kazmir is perfect for the Twins because they hit lefties so well, and he is so much less the pitcher he used to be. In his last start vs. KC, I think he got some lucky breaks, and the Royals also hit down sometimes to the level of the pitcher(and then beat up somebody good). Kazmir is still recovering from his elbow surgery in that his velocity is low 90s at best, and a decent slider, that is his only slightly + pitch. In 44 ABs, this Twin lineup is hitting .364 vs. Kazmir. The Indians might also struggle vs. Correia, who has been the Twins best pitcher. Very few Indians have ever seen him, and that can be a problem picking up the delivery and the off speed stuff. I also like how the Twins have greatly improved their bullpen.

Tampa -1 (+103). 2 units for now. I don't think the Rockies are unbeatable at home, but I do think Matt Moore's control almost did in the Rays. Tampa is still hitting the homers, and they are in homer haven Coors. Garland has been showing, in his last 2 starts, why the Mariners didn't sign him out of camp. He is a fly ball pitcher, with a sinker, which doesn't make sense. In scouting reports, his sinker is his only + pitch, so why do batters hit fly balls? Fly balls in Colorado tend to fly away. His fastball is fairly straight, and his off speed stuff is ordinary and he has a hard time controlling it. As Garland is regressing to his norm, Price is looking better. It was about this time last year that Price started to dominate. David Price is another lefty, but with better control. He has 2 ++ pitches, a fastball with great tail, and a deadly slider. He also has other pitches that he can now command. The Rockies do not hit lefty pitchers nearly as well as RHP, and haven't seen much of Price. Price got his first major league at bat in Coors, and got a hit. Tampa has a slight bullpen edge.

STL ML (-117) One unit. Every hitter except Craig hits Gallardo well. Every hitter except Ramirez does NOT hit Wainwright well. Gallardo has pitched better since his drunk driving arrest, but the Cardinals have been his Achilles heal. I also think Milwaukee's bullpen is going to blow up eventually( except maybe their closer). I was shocked at how well STL hit Lohse, one of his worst starts in a while.

Pirates ML (+126) One unit. It's always difficult to go against pitchers like Strasburg, but this one merits a play. First off, the Nats have been woeful vs. LHP- hitting .196. Harper and Span, 2 of their guys who are hitting well, are both lefties and have very poor splits vs. LHP. Locke is a much better pitcher now than last year, less Ks, more poor contact. A lot of pitchers need to learn this, and they could stay in games longer and reduce the pitch counts on their arms. The Nats have never seen Locke. The Pirates also have a definite bullpen edge since the Nats bullpen is weaker this year across the board. the Pirates also are a solid home team, and especially hit better there. As for Strasburg, there's nothing really wrong with him, except he might be too hard on himself. Even super competitive Davey Johnson, his mgr, thinks he needs to lighten up. A pitcher pressing is not as effective as a pitcher who calmly pitches with confidence. Ian Kennedy was the same way. The Pirates also hit righties fairly well, and it looks like McCuthchen is getting hot again.

This is now 3 units for me. Garland's sinker and fastball are almost the same speed, which means, I think, that he isn't getting much sink on it. It also could be why he has given up too many fly balls. With Coors, and the Rays homer surge, it warrants an extra unit.
