Do you celebrate or do anything special for Cinco De Mayo?

Was talking with a friend who is from NJ, said he did not 'celebrate' this until he moved to CA about 10 years ago....I live in southern CA and even though Cinco de Mayo is more of an American holiday there is lots of celebration here. I think most people just use it as an excuse to drink and eat, which I have no problem with.

don't do anything. maybe I'll have the rare mexican beer, if I remember... To me it's akin to st patty's day - just in terms of the amateur-ish nature of the drinkers. I imagine if I was of Mexican descent, I'd probably think otherwise.

Yea Cinco de Mayo is not celebrated in Mexico. Some Mexican-Americans will celebrate but actual Mexican Independence day is Sept 16th

I'll drink some silver tequila to honor our friends from south of the border

on a sadder note a 46 year old (?) owner of the best Mexican restaurant in the local area (IMO) died unexpectedly recently. Was well liked and had tons of friends, as well as young children.

I tried to get into his restaurant a couple of times on May 5th, it was impossible. We actually went there last night instead.

Local towns have field trips to his restaurant for their Spanish classes

Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Veracruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York. This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York. The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost. The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day. The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as Sinko de Mayo.
