The Phillies give this guy no run support, and that's why they are 1-6 in his games. That stat is bad enough, but this one is worse: in night games, Hamels is 0-5 and averaging 1.8 runs of support. Well, it's a night game in Arizona, so here we go. The D'Backs get the kid Corbin on the mound tonight, and this guy is in some kind of lockdown mode where he can't lose. The D'Backs haven't lost any of his games, and he is very comfortable at home (2-0, 1.42 ERA) and at night (4-0, 1.71 ERA). Unless this kid melts down tonight for some reason, the Phillies are in store for an ass beating.

Which is fine with me, because I see the Phillies for what they are: overpaid, lazy, and soft. They sure don't like to travel either. Their line-up in road games has a shitty batting average up and down. Look at these road batting averages:

Rollins: .206
Fransden: .214
D. Young: .182
Ruiz: .143
Mayberry: .229
Revere: .231
R. Howard: .242

Only Utley and M. Young have a road avg above .250. Meanwhile, you look at the Diamondbacks' home batting averages:

Pollock: .280
Goldschmidt: .250
Prado: .262
Nieves: .556
Parra: .311
Wilson: 273

I find it revealing that the only road game that Hamels struggled in was against Atlanta. Guys, the Diamondbacks have a better team OBS and BA at home than Atlanta does at home. The Diamondbacks have hit 16 HR in 16 home games. Hamels will probably struggle again tonight, especially since the DBacks have a combined .286 average vs lefties. (tonight's line-up only)

Until the Phillies prove they can back Hamels with some production and actually win any of his games, they don't deserve backing. And until Hamels proves he can beat a team besides the Mets (horrible OBS), Marlins (disgusting) and Pirates (who suck on the road), no backing for him either.

Good Night.

Your title to your thread sounds as cocky as Malholm was going to get rocked by the Reds, hope this one has better results than that prediction did.

Oh sorry. Let me rephrase it: "There is no statistical reason to bet on Cole Hamels tonight"

And I don't know about cocky. But I will say this. If you're not confident, I mean 100% confident, that the bet you are making is the correct one, then you need a new hobby.

Hamels ERA is decent but the Phillies aren't supporting him.

I prefer the under in this game but DBacks win is a nice option too.

Corbin has only 80 pitches through 6. He'll be going 8 tonight, then the closer.
