A Tampa, Florida, restaurant received bomb threats after the eatery began selling an exotic Lion meat taco, reports the Tampa Tribune.
Taco Fusion, which had the unusual dish on its menu for about a week, is known for unique fillings in their shells. Yet ither exotic fare on the "Safari Menu" — ostrich, yak, reindeer, alligator, elk, bear, kangaroo — haven't had quite the same public reception as the $35 lion meat. Restaurant owner Ryan Gougeon says the lion meat was a big seller before the serious threats started.
While news crews were outside, the restaurant's general manager was attacked. "A guy came in and took a swing at him," Gougeon told the Tampa Tribune. A wrestling match ensued and then dissipated but not before another caller threatened the owner with a fight. The restaurant also received numerous death threats from anonymous callers that are being investigated by police. Taco Fusion has disbanded its Facebook page due to the backlash.
If you're wondering if serving lion meat is against the law, it is not. According to the Tampa Tribune, lions are not an endangered species in the U.S.; they are, however, a threatened species. Gougeon gets his authentic lion meat from a farm.
Do you think the restaurant should be able to serve lion meat tacos in peace? Or should it be illegal to serve any animal that is deemed threatened?
