I like San Diego with Marquis on mound to win again in Baltimore.

San Diego played well in Tampa but lost all three games despite leading late in all three games. They had a day of rest to re-focus and they came from behind yesterday to beat the Os.

Baltimore is obviously not focused on San Diego right now as they are looking ahead to a 3 game series against red hot divisional rival TB, winners of 6 straight. After the TB series, they will host the divisional leader NYY, winners of 7 of their last 8.

Marquis won last 3 decisions with ERA just over 2. Garcia is 0-2 in last 6 starts and 3 relief appearances with ERA over 6.

Padres know enough about Garcia as they signed him to a minor league contract this year and then released him a month later.

San Diego +140

Going with another big dog that, based on pitching, should be favored.

Miami +162

J.Fernandez went thru a rough stretch in 2nd half of April but bounced well in two May starts, winning them both with ERA of 2.08, 16 Ks and 3 walks. He will be looking for revenge as his worst start of the season came against the Reds in that hitter friendly ballpark in Cincinnati. Miami will try to avoid being swept at home. The Reds are sending Latos to mound and he is their leader in wins, WHIP and ERA this season. However, he has been erratic in last three starts walking 9 batters in 17 innings and very hittable in last two starts with 15 hits in only 11 innings. His ERA in last two starts is 7.36 and his WHIP stands at 1.91. The Reds are better, no question about that, but better teams do not win all the time and we all know that.

brutal loss indeed yesterday but when you pick +160 dogs then better be ready for something like that to happen.

so, today i am going with a total instead of a side.

first of all, in 7 of last 10 meetings between Kansas City and Oakland the losing team was scoreless and one of those 7 games involved j.shields when he came to Oakland and pitched a CG SO last season allowing 3 hits, no walks and striking out 11. Parker had a rough start of season as he was hit hard in 4 of his first 5 starts but then started a slow improvement in last 3 starts. he has the skills needed to last in this league and he can use the dimensions of his home ballpark to his advantage. it did not look like that so far this season but if we look back at his home starts from last season we will see that he is due to improve. he went 8-0 under the total in his last 8 home starts in 2012. i will take under 7 here and hope to see a 3-2 type of game.

I truly admire Zimmerman. He is by far the best pitcher on that Nationals squad. However, we saw several times this season how unreliable their pen can be as long as their starter is not pitching at least 8 innings. Stultz is 6-1 in last 7 decisions at home. He is the guy that gives Padres a chance to win in almost every start he makes. The Padres were on a 9-1 run at home prior to this series and the Nationals were a 9-10 road team when they came to San Diego. I believe that we have some value with Padres today. San Diego +115
