Most professional athletes like to spend their fortune on luxury houses, extravagant cars, and the finest — often tailor-made — clothing.

James Harrison is a different breed.

In his introductory press conference as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals Tuesday, the veteran linebacker revealed that he spends between $400,000-$600,000 per year “on body work.”

Basically, that’s a fancy way of saying “massages,” and his over-indulgence has led to an interesting nickname.
“I’ve always been what everybody’d like to call — excuse my English — is massage whore,” Harrison said, via Bengals.com.

“I can’t think of nothing else. They done called me it so long I’m starting to believe it.”

The 35-year-old Harrison knows he’s no young pup, so self-preservation is of the utmost importance.

“I have a hyperbaric chamber,” Harrison said. “I rent a hyperbaric chamber when I’m in Arizona. I have massages and I bring people in from New York, Arizona to where I’m at. There’s that cost. Like I said, I get body work almost every single day except Saturday and Sunday. I have a homeopathic doctor and I do a lot of homeopathic things. It’s just a lot, supplements, so on and so forth.”

While many, including the Steelers (who released him after nine seasons), believe he’s broken down physically, Harrison begs to differ.

“I probably haven’t felt this good since, I don’t know, 2008, the beginning of 2009.”

That’d be pretty good, since Harrison earned Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2008. As long as he can contribute on the field, Cincy should have no issue with his methods.

For that kind of Money, Hope he had a few Happy Endings :)

That’s $4000 a day at the low end. I call bullshit.

I'm sure just like anything else there are some high end massage therapists that charge insane amounts

Anyway with his money that's just like any of us regular people spending 10 bucks a day on a massage.

he writes it off as a business expense. It costs him almost nothing.

" Athletic equipment, workout gear and massages are all among items that can be claimed as tax deductions by professional athletes."

Bets on he will be first in line to file a lawsuit on the nfl for saftey issues once he is broke.

All I can say is so typical.....even if this isn't 100% true.

Little expensive, but hope he's smart enough not to continue this spending after his career is over. Better than spending money supporting your posse, clubbing, or having multiple kids with multiple women.

I agree with that. I don't see why this is such a big deal.

At least he is investing this money in maintaining his body, which is his tool in his profession.
