I've noticed over the years that because I follow all of my favorite teams so closely, I've had pretty solid success wagering on, or yes... against them. I'd like to think I can confidently say I can see past my fan bias and approach these games with a clear mind. I have wagered against my teams just as much as I have wagered on them, and if it's a big game for my team and I like the other side I'll simply pass (I can still post for others, though). Unfortunately, I've bet much more against than on my Cubbies over the last few years. This is something that I hope will be changing within the next year or two as the rebuilding process starts to pay dividends. Anyways, I like a play on tonight's game so this will be my first posted play on or against my team and I will keep this thread going as plays come along. They will be few and far between but when something sticks out I'll speak up.

Tonight's play:

Chicago Cubs 1st Half (5 Innings) Moneyline -140 risking $280 to win $200
Chicago Cubs 1st Half (5 Innings) -1/2 Runs +105 risking $100 to win $105

Jeff Samardzija might be one of the best starters with a 1-5 record in MLB history. This guy is truly top-of-the-rotation material and has some filthy stuff. The Cubs come into this game 7 games under .500 facing a 21-18 Rockies team. Chicago is also only 2-6 in Samardzija's 8 starts, mostly because they have scored only 3 runs or less in 5 of those starts. Even though Jeff has racked up only 1 W thus far, he has recorded four quality starts. The first was on Opening day, but all three of his other great starts have followed up what were his three worst outings of the year. He is now coming off his worst outing of the season after the Nats (or should I say Ian Diamond) slapped him around last Friday. I fully expect Jeff to come out focused and back on track as he has all season. One thing I can tell you as a close follower of the Cubs is that this kid has an extraordinary passsion for the game. He puts in as much work as anyone in the offseason and spring and I'm sure he's done what was needed since his last start to fix his mistakes. Colorado is by no means a weak offense but I'll take great pitching over great hitting any day.

This play is just as much a fade of Garland as it is a play on Samardzija. It's getting close to first pitch so I'm going to have to cut this short but Jon looks like he's cashed. I think the Cubs, as modest as their offense has been, will have no problem getting to the pitcher they once drafted 10th overall... 16 years ago.

I think we are getting some value here as Samardzija's bad starts have skewed his numbers a bit and the public is hesitant to lay chalk on the Lovable Losers against a team with a winning record. Thanks, but I'll take the team whose starter is molding into his prime as an ace rather than the gas tank running on empty. Avoid the Cubs' bullpen mismatch and cut this one short after the 5th.

I apologize as I posted very late and didn't have time for a writeup. I guess it's okay since people aren't tailing yet anyways (but they will once they see the numbers I rack up on my own team).

This definitely would've been a rocking chair winner if it weren't for the pitcher's two-run double (can't handicap that)... but a winner nonetheless. Glad to see Garza on his game... should net us a few solid prospects at the deadline.

I'll be back for the next one!

Garbage time 2-run homer in the bottom of the 9th takes away my 2nd half win... that's annoying.
