Blue Jays scoring in bunches; dogs Friday in NY

The Toronto Blue Jays have won four straight games heading into Friday's matchup versus the New York Yankees. They've also taken seven of 10 dating back to May 5 against the Seattle Mariners.

Their bats appear to be waking up as they've scored at least 10 runs in three straight games and are averaging nine runs per game during the winning streak. The Jays are now tied for first in the American League with 53 home runs.

The Jays were the talk of the offseason as they revamped their lineup and starting rotation and found themselves 12/1 to bring the World Series trophy back to Canada.

Toronto will look to continue its winning ways as they open a weekend series versus New York at Yankee Stadium Friday. The Yankees are -163 favorites and will send Huroki Kuroda to the hill. The Jays will counter with lefty Mark Buehrle.

Senators at Penguins: What bettors need to know

Ottawa Senators at Pittsburgh Penguins (-190, 5.5)

Penguins lead best-of-seven series 1-0.

When they were at even strength, the Ottawa Senators more than held their own against the top-seeded Pittsburgh Penguins in the opener of their Eastern Conference second-round series. After allowing two power-play goals - and a short-handed one to boot - the seventh-seeded Senators will look to stay out of the penalty box and leave the Steel City with a split following Game 2 on Friday. Chris Kunitz and defenseman Paul Martin each scored with the man advantage and Pascal Dupuis tallied while his team was short-handed as Pittsburgh breezed to a 4-1 triumph on Tuesday.

The Penguins went 2-for-4 on the power play in Game 1 after going 7-for-21 in their first-round series versus the eighth-seeded New York Islanders. Ottawa is no slouch when it is shorthanded, killing off a league-best 88 percent of its opponent's power plays. "If we break even on the special teams battle, it gives us a good chance to win," Senators coach Paul MacLean said.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, NBC Sports, CBC, RDS

ABOUT THE SENATORS: Jared Cowen struggled in Tuesday's setback as Martin's goal early in the first period deflected off the Ottawa defenseman and into the net. Cowen also had a key turnover behind his own goal which resulted in Malkin's tally. "Most of the things we're having trouble with are just mental fixes," Cowen told the Ottawa Citizen. "There's nothing we haven't seen before. In the playoffs, we tend to overanalyze things. Some things get blown up."

ABOUT THE PENGUINS: Evgeni Malkin, who collected a goal and an assist in Game 1, joined Dupuis and Jarome Iginla with seven-game point streaks in the postseason. The reigning Hart Trophy winner, Malkin sits one point behind Boston's David Krejci for the NHL lead in the playoffs. Veteran Tomas Vokoun has certainly fared well since replacing Marc-Andre Fleury to start Game 6 in the first round. Vokoun, who made 35 saves on Tuesday, has stopped 101 of 105 shots en route to winning his last three starts.

TRENDS:

* Senators are 0-4 in the last four meetings.
* Senators are 1-5 in the last six meetings in Pittsburgh.
* Penguins are 40-12 in their last 52 home games.
* Under is 8-1 in Penguins’ last nine vs. a team with a winning record.

OVERTIME

1. Iginla has eight assists, leaving him one shy of his career high - set over the course of 26 games with Calgary during the 2004 playoffs.

2. Ottawa D Eric Gryba suffered an upper-body injury in Game 1. Should Gryba be unable to play, Andre Benoit is expected to be inserted into the lineup.

3. Pittsburgh has won all four meetings with Ottawa in 2013.
