just watching sportscenter, they reported that Matt Kemp announced to the media last night that he would donate a thousand dollars for every home run he hits up until the all-star break. If he gets hot that might cost him 10,000, which is the same as a guy making 40,000 a year donating 20. Its not the amount that bothers me so much if he was doing it privately, but to try and get some credit for it just boggles my mind. He is from Oklahoma.

Yeah i tend to agree with you. It's not like he's Barry Bonds and it's going to be some significant amout. Just give 10k as a humanitarian and don't make it about you.

...But , any act of charity is still a nice gesture.

Well cancel Christmas. How are his kids going to eat now? What a selfless sacrifice. God Bless Twitter. Everyone look at me.

True. Durant donated a million dollars and didn't make a big announcement about it. KD is the man!

Durant is all class. Heard the Thunder followed suit with a million dollar also. I also heard the West Virginia baseball team was in okc, drove to Moore after the tornado and got turned away to help, so they scraped up all their per deim money and went and bought food. Pretty classy for some college kids

good story of the WVU baseball team

KD seems like such a great guy....i have always liked the dude.

non-visible tattoos make him look less intimidating, weak bench press out of college, skinny dude unlike some lebron type beast, yet still deadly and probably the best scorer in the NBA right now. I hope he becomes an all time great. Kind of like the people's champ

Any donation no matter how big or small is commendable....Kemp shouldn't catch any flak from anyone....

Matt Kemp doenst owe anybody anything.
People giving him a hard time likely havent donated shit.

Nothing wrong with trying to raise awareness and hopefully try and inspire some others to do good as well.

None the less it does seem kinda small if you are going to make a big deal about it!~))!

Wow, I mean thank God for the Twitter @MattKempDouche account. Without it, nobody would have been aware of the tornado.

I dunno. I was watching Sportscenter last night and they had a story about this. My jaw kinda dropped to the ground. A guy making 130K a day broadcasts that he's giving 7K to charity and ESPN recognizes him like wow, great job Matt Kemp! And Twitter is already the gayest thing ever, but if you wanna give a "shout out" to the tornado victims why tell the world you're giving 5 seconds of salary like it's gonna help anyone. To each his own, but I was in disbelief at the tweet and at the coverage of it.

until one of you donates at least $1001 for each homer kemp hits till the all star break I would keep quiet about it.
these guys are in a no win situation sometimes.

If he gave a million they would say so what he is rich.
If he gives only $1000 per homer they will say he is too cheap.

He's not accountable to anyone on earth for how much he gives or doesn't give. But when he broadcasts his donation and asks for praise for giving a few pennies away, people are going to say WTF.

All he did was make the comment on twitter.
He did not ask ESPN to make a special about it.
Maybe his only intention was to tell his twitter followers in an attempt to maybe get other people on board to also donate money to the cause.

Just because ESPN is making a big deal about it does not mean Kemp had the intention of a major media company making a big deal.

If you want to direct your blame on someone blame ESPN.
Kemp likely had nothing to do with ESPN making a big story out of it.

Fair point. Screw ESPN then.

Fair point. Screw ESPN then.

What we are talking about here is much smaller version of why so many people hate Tim Tebow.
Most people dont hate Tebow because he is Tebow.
They hate him because ESPN forces him on everyone 24 hours a day.
Some people blame the hate on the fact he is a Christian.
I dont believe that.
There are many well liked Christian's in sports.
But Tebow gets crammed down everyone's ears 24 hours a day to the point it forces people to falsely hate Tebow instead of ESPN.
Its not his fault ESPN talks about him all the time.

The same can probably said for Kemp.
I dont imagine Kemp intended for ESPN to make a big deal about his donation.
He just made an innocent 140 character tweet to his followers.

I see nothing wrong about that.
