Detroit righthander Max Scherzer, the first pitcher in 27 years to start a season 12-0, will not be starting the All-Star Game if he stays on his current pitching schedule
. Tigers manager Jim Leyland, who also is the manager for the American League in the All-Star Game, said he wants his All-Star starter available for two innings, and to safeguard pitchers' arms he will not use any pitcher scheduled to start the Saturday before the All-Star Game, including Scherzer, for more than one inning.
<!--startclickprintexclude--><!--endclickprintexclude-->"It's not the same as throwing a side session," Leyland said about using a starting pitcher in the All-Star Game on two days of rest. "It's a game that counts with the whole world watching."
<!--startclickprintexclude--><!--endclickprintexclude-->Leyland also said he will not use any starting pitcher who pitches the Sunday before the All-Star Game under any circumstance.
<!--startclickprintexclude--><!--endclickprintexclude-->"I'm not going to pitch any [starter] who throws that Sunday," Leyland said. "I've talked to a lot of other managers about that, and I haven't found anyone who disagrees with me."
<!--startclickprintexclude--><!--endclickprintexclude-->Scherzer established a Tigers franchise record for starting pitchers by improving to 12-0 with a 6-3 win over Tampa Bay on Friday. The last pitcher to start a season 12-0 was Roger Clemens in 1986. Scherzer also leads the league in fewest hits per nine innings (6.036) and is second in WHIP (0.897) and strikeouts (131) and is sixth in innings (110.1).
<!--startclickprintexclude--><!--endclickprintexclude-->He is expected to be named to his first All-Star team when selections are announced Saturday. Scherzer is scheduled to make three more starts before the game: Wednesday at Toronto, Monday July 8 at Cleveland and Saturday July 13 at home against Texas.

Darvish and it's not even close. Absolutely the best stuff in baseball. And I LOVE Scherzer.
