2013 MLB Picks Tracking
Hello All. We will be posting here at TheRX to track our 2013 MLB numbers. The picks are largely spit out by our model, which is based largely upon advanced metrics. We try out a few new factors over the course of the year, but most our fundamentals are based upon a tried and trusted handicapping mix: starting pitching, ballpark analysis, umpires, etc.

Twins(Diamond) at Tigers(Porcello) U9 -105 $315 to win $300
Tigers(Porcello) -166 $498 to win $300
Two bad pitchers against two decent offenses in an AL park. Bet the over, right? Not here. Both pitchers have pitched better than their ERAs would suggest. In Porcello's case, he's been a lot better than his ERA would suggest. We like him to shut down the Twins, and we like Scott Diamond to keep the game reasonably close. This is a big ballpark with two pitchers who are undervalued. We like the under large here, and we like the Tigers to keep winning, as well.
Orioles(Gaussman) at Blue Jays(Morrow) U9 -105 $315 to win $300
Blue Jays TT U4.5 -115 $345 to win $300
Here, we have Kevin Gaussman making his debut for the Os. He's been lights out in the minors, with big K totals while controlling walks and home runs. Scouts suggest he has top of the rotation stuff, and though the Blue Jays have undoubtedly scouted him a good bit, they haven't seen him in real life yet. Good prospects typically fare well early in their careers, and we like that trend to continue. It helps, of course, that Blue Jays starter Brandon Morrow has the stuff to shut down the Os. He's not pitched to form so far, but that will change at some point. We think this is a good place for a 3-2 type of game.
Red Sox(Demptster) -141 $423 to win $300
The Red Sox get Cleveland in Fenway, and this is a pitching mismatch. Zach McAllister has been living on a prayer, and he is a prime candidate for regression. The stuff is not there to sustain a sub-4.00 ERA, and the correction will begin soon. Dempster has been a K machine so far this year, and he should have success at home against an admittedly good Cleveland lineup. He is a strike thrower, and that will be important against a lineup known to work the count.
Angels(Blanton) at Royals(Santana) U8.5 -110 $330 to win $300
Royals -126 $378 to win $300
Angels TT U4 -120 $360 to win $300
We like the Royals big tonight, and we like both teams to stay off the scoreboard. The Royals play great defense, and that is a big ballpark. We like what we have seen out of Ervin Santana, and we suspect he will be tough on the right-handed Angels tonight. Joe Blanton struggled last time out, and we suspect the Royals will scratch out enough runs to win this one 5-3 or something of the like.
