All of us are different and define success in different ways obviously but at what point in your life do you think you made it or will make it in the future? When I say "make it" I mean you achieved all that you ever wanted or want to achieve?

An NBA player can say he made it when he reaches the league or signs that first big contract or an MLB player makes the bigs but what about the normal guy?

Cheesy answer but there's always a new goal, IMO. I'll never have made it - always want to improve.

In some ways I have "made it". I own my on business and it is successful, I make enough that I can retire without worry. But as stated above there are always new goals and new reasons to work. I have people who depend on me for their success and I find by focusing on them my success just happens. I do not set personal goals or company goals any more, instead I help them set goals and work with them to reach those goals and everything else takes care of itself.

I have survived a likely death, married a wonderful woman, and have a beautiful son. We travel and do just about anything we really want to do. Don't see how life could get much better.

when you're happy and content

I was walking in a swamp once and found 1 of those Genie bottles. I rubbed on it and a damn Genie popped out.
He says i can grant you 1 wish and 1 wish only.
So i pull out a map i had and tell him I want you to bring peace to the Middle East. He swats the map away and says " Hey them guys been fighting for hundreds of years im not sure there is much i can do, try another wish"
So i says make me Happy and Content.
Genie says " Let me see that map again"..........

I think that's the definition of made it. When you no longer have to worry about personal success and your desire to make others succeed takes over. Great way to live your life.

There will always be trouble. Sooner or later everyone you know will get sick and die, and then it will happen to you. We can pretend it won't happen by focusing on goals and success, but those will all pass away just like ourselves. It's so easy to be distracted from these truths, because all we know is life. We are told every day how important education, health, and savings are. But in reality, none of them mean a damn thing.

Either we are dust in the wind, like Kansas said....which is scary. Or we have a purpose and a judgment by the Most High afterwards, which is scarier.

I think that for most people, we chase goals and success because there is always something in the future that we haven't achieved that we think will fulfill us. When I've really struggled and felt down, I've looked at pro athletes and thought, wow if I only could have their life, everything would be great. But the people that have the most in life already know the secret that most people don't know yet for themselves. That this life cannot fulfill, it always leaves you empty.

Cubs fans are better off not having won a World Series. Because they have hope. They have this picture in their head and it makes them smile. They talk about it and dream about it and hope. Hope does a lot for people. But most hope in the wrong things. As soon as the Cubs win their title and the town wakes up from their hangover there will be a huge sadness that creeps in. They will realize that they hoped in something that would ultimately disappoint and did in fact disappoint them. I've talked to many Boston fans that can attest to feelings like this. So Cubs fans are better off if they never win it.

Sorry for the long writings, I am a very deep thinker and very philosophical these days. I've pretty much contemplated everything. And that is why I look to God and eternity for hope, because there is none in this world.

There's no hope in the world Illini? I'd sure disagree with that one.
