Is it possible to use Excel to track a system....

Basically what I am asking, if I want to use Excel to pull in some statistics, and do some calculations, is that possible without manually inputing the information?

Is it possible to set it up so it "downloads / inputs" the new statistical data daily? Would it be easy to change the "forumla" ie, what data is being pulled, or how it's being calculated?

If Yes, obviously I don't have the skills to do so, what should I expect to pay to have this set up?

doubtful there is anything automated to do this. You could technically design a program to use and get the stats from a trusted source. Seems like a lot of work though to be honest unless u are a bored programmer that wants to write a program to do all this for you. Problem is I doubt you could touch that computer that is doing this for you.. so it basically just becomes a robot. lol

Yes this could be done depending on the format of the input data. I could help you with something like this...you're one of the good ones so I'd do it for free for ya. PM me and we'll see what we're working with.

That's basically what he's asking...for a program to be designed. Some very simple scripting could handle this no problem.

yea if you can write a script and you have a reliable source for the stats your pulling on a daily basis then it could very well work.. gl guys :)

I imagine I have to find a statistical database to pull from... when searching what key words/ industry terms would I be looking for...

How easy would it be to change what stats are pulled and or the forumla

I would definitely pay you or whoever helps me with this, just trying to establish expectations while I continue to dig into this kind of thing...

Are you saying you don't know what pieces of the input data are needed in your formula here, you are still tinkering around and are wanting to be able to include/exclude certain variables, or at least weight them differently?

Excel is not your ideal interface for query/manipulation of large amount of data either. You will most likely want to perform this task outside of Excel...

If you find a data source, even if it's data on a web page, I could write some code to pull the data from the web page and do whatever statistical analysis you need, and then output the data on one of my web servers... I'm still a bit unclear what kind of data sources you're talking about, and what the interface is to retrieve the data.
