Wondering if it really helps to boost your credit score? I don't have much of a credit history so I'm trying to establish some credit and raise my score.

I wouldnt get one if you are trying to establish credit. Just get regular CC's.. Will look the same on your credit score and won't cost you anything.

Yeah secured is for people with bad credit.. People with no credit should get CC's and make all payments on time..

Everyone has to start somewhere, right?

get a department store credit card, use it at the checkout, then pay in cash immediately. Your credit score will go up with every purchase. Obviously, don't leave anything on credit card since its a ridiculous interest. (29% at some places)

If you add another, you can do the same. Your credit rating will rise very quickly.

Bonus, if you find a store with points of some kind, you will be paying cash in reality, but bumping up your points.

I started that way in Canada, with Zellers, then another company.. within six months i had a visa, and nothing in debt... and lots of points from Zellers (like walmart in canada)

Just only use credit and leave it on there if you really need it. I pay for everything in cash. If I can't afford it, I can't have it or don't need it. Credit cards are best used for airline tickets and car rentals only. IMHO

Ok, what about if I was to get a loan from my bank. Maybe like a 500 dollar loan with a co signer, is their a way for it to still help my score and not my co signers or will it just affect theirs?
