Oscar-winning actor Michael Douglas has revealed that oral sex was the cause of his throat cancer.

In an interview with the Guardian, the Hollywood star made the startling claims about the origin of his battle with the disease, of which he was first diagnosed three years ago. He has since been given a clear bill of health and working towards a full recovery.

Douglas was asked by the newspaper if he had any regrets of his way of life prior to his diagnosis - primarily the affects smoking and drinking have had on his body, when he responded: "No. Because without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV [human papillomavirus], which actually comes about from cunnilingus."

"I did worry if the stress caused by my son's incarceration didn't help trigger it. But yeah, it's a sexually transmitted disease that causes cancer. And if you have it, cunnilingus is also the best cure for it."

HPV is a sexually transmitted virus which causes cervical and anal cancer, and experts believe that it is also a contributing factor in the rise of throat cancer.

In 2010, Douglas had made several visits to various doctors after complaining or oral discomfort, when he finally visited a Montreal physician.

"I will always remember the look on his face. He said: 'We need a biopsy.' There was a walnut-size tumour at the base of my tongue that no other doctor had seen."

The Fatal Attraction actor is well known for his openness in interviews when it comes to his personal life, going into detail about his battled with alcohol addition in the 1990s, as well as recreational drug use.

The 68-year-old is married to Chicago actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, who is equally as open when it comes to her own health, having spoken very candidly about maintaining her bipolar disorder and working to raise awareness on mental health issues.

He is currently promoting his latest movie, a Liberace biopic entitled Behind the Candelabra, in which he plays the title role and performs some very graphic scenes alongside co-star Matt Damon, who plays his lover.

Who proofreads these articles? I just skimmed it and that sentence jumped off the page. First off it's "battles" not "battled". Secondly I'm pretty sure he didn't have trouble adding drinks upon other drinks.

He probably got it from Kathleen Turner. He used to bang her back in the 80's. That shit must have lingered, LOL.
