no one watches baseball anymore, the sport is dead.
There is plenty of star power on the Yankees. Cano is arguably the best 2nd basemen in baseball. He is relatively young and homegrown. Sure he plays nonchalant at times but he is a star nevertheless. Its the combination of pricing and location of the stadium. All of baseball would also benefit from requiring a retractable roof for any new stadium. It get humid hot in ny over the summer. Paying a ton of money to sit in it for 3 to 4 hours is no fun to the casual fan.
I used to think this way too but if you look at attendance, television ratings, mlb network growth, etc the game is still very popular. Infact I think the increased parity and not everything being so Yankees/Red Sox-centric like the early 00's has helped a lot.
I personally don't care for baseball but business wise it is doing better than a lot of people think. Dodgers didn't sell for 2B for no reason.
I think people in NY bored with the Yanks, the team just lacks star power now, there isn't 1 marquee player or a young guy the fans can rally around like a Trout or Harper. It is just a regular team and there is a lot of other stuff for people with $ in NY to do.
What makes you say that? Just curious...
The TV deal with timewarner alone is for 350 million a season (more than the Lakers with timewarner) with the new network they got called LASportsNet or something. It is double what they estimated in the bankruptcy proceeding...
Because the next highest bid was $800M. They could have easily gotten the team for $1B.
