I thought about it hard today.

If he was selected, I wouldn't be surprised.

Thoughts?

Really? That kind of surprises me.

You have to take his college career into account since the basketball HOF is both college and NBA.

He had a HOF college career at Duke which would have probably got him in even if he did not play in the NBA.

Do you think guys like Adam Morrison or Christian Laettner will be elected into the NBA HOF? I would think if Grant Hill would get in because of his college career alone then surely Laettner would've been elected right?

Close call- I'm saying No-- injuries got the best of him.

After the first six seasons of his career, before his ankle injury, Hill had a total of 9,393 points, 3,417 rebounds and 2,720 assists. Oscar Robertson, Bird and LeBron James are the only three players in league history to eclipse these numbers after their first six seasons.

Yes, he was an amazing player until his injuries got the best of him. Great professional and teammate though.

Will play Devil's Advocate for a second.

G. Hill averaged roughly 16 PPG, 6 RPG and 4 APG
D. West has averaged roughly 16 PPG, 7 RPG and 2 APG

D. West is not going to the HOF.

Had injuries not affected him, he would of finished his career strong an be a HOF for sure. If he makes it now (which I think he will) a lot of it will be contributed to him being such a class act

Let me give you another guy who has comparable numbers to G. Hill.

Through 13 NBA seasons, Joe Johnson averages 17.6 PPG, 4 RPG and 4 APG.

Joe Johnson isn't going to the NBA HOF.

How about Carlos Boozer? Through 12 NBA Seasons, he averages 16.9 PPG, 9.9 RPG and 2.4 APG and he isn't a HOF player.

Just something to think about.

It's the basketball hof - not the nba hof

And I understand this point but Christian Laettner had perhaps the greatest college career ever, averaged 12.8 PPG, 6.7 RPG and 2.6 APG in the NBA as well as made an All Star Team, All Rookie Team, Olympic Gold Medal and inducted into the CBB HOF in 2010.

Is he an NBA HOF player because of his college career and mediocre NBA career?

can't look at his career averages only. they were obviously brought down a large amount in his post injury and elder years.

looking at his All Star games and more importantly his MVP shares is a better indication.

here are the active players MVP Shares Rankings...

I'd say no one after Grant is really a good bet to make the HOF based on Pro career and almost all the guys Before him WILL deserve to get in when all is said and done. I think Grant Hill based on his Pro career would be just outside the bubble of getting in. There is a good chance his college and olympic background will get him in though

I would say Carmelo Anthony and Tony Parker will be there one day.
