There is a domain name that I want to buy but its already purchased according to godaddy. But when I type in that URL in the address bar nothing comes up at all.
The computer just goes to a blank screen and no website shows up.

I have tried this URL on 5 different computers and the same thing happens every time.

This URL would be very valuable to my company and the person who owns it is not using it.

I would like to know how I can get a hold of this person and maybe make a deal with him or her since they are not using it for anything.

Does anyone know how I can find out this info?

Thank you.
The person who owns the URL is out of Nevada and the site has not been updated since 2008 according to the search.

Do you have any idea how much they would want to charge me for this URL?

How's your business venture progressing Choptalk?

Lots of kinks to iron out, and lots of learning curve and hidden expenses.

But we will get there with a lot of determination and hard work.

One of my early big mistakes was my URL name.
I am trying to rectify that mistake right now.

I was not able to use the one that I wanted so I used a secondary name that I knew I should not have used.

The one I wanted all along is the one that I started this thread for.

I want to see how difficult it would be for me to obtain it.

The person who owns it now is not using it.

Well I just found out that the URL expires on 11/20/13.
This does not mean that they wont renew the URL on that date but im betting that they dont.

Maybe im better off just waiting till that day to see if they renew the name. If they dont I will jump on it on 11/21 without having to pay extra for it.

The name of my company is the URL I want.
My URL is not the same as the name of my company.
Its close but its not the same.

Plus the URL I want is shorter and easier to remember.

So my question is should I call this guy up who owns this URL(I GOT HIS NUMBER) and let him in on the fact that I want it?

Or should I play it cool and not mention it and hopefully I can just scoop it up when it expires?

If I call him up this will tell him im interested and he will probably try to make me pay him for it.
This will greatly increase the chances that he will renew the URL.

If I dont say a word I think there is a good chance he will let it expire.

Now I find out this guy is using facebook for his business page.
Apparently the guy had intentions of making a website but later on decided that his facebook page was good enough and never bothered with the business webpage.

I really want this URL but dont want to let the guy know I want want it.
He would probably try to swindle me out of several thousand dollars.

Wait till it expires, he probably won't renews if he's already using facebook.

Im leaning that way but I sure would like to have the name now.

I already have thousands of business cards and brochure's with the URL that I dont like on them.
So I guess its just as well that I use all that up before changing the URL.

But in any case I will just have a redirect for the old address even if I can get this new address. So it wont be a huge deal.

I will keep both URL's so no matter what advertising they see it will work.

I just dont like the idea of my URL not being the same as my company name.

he will renew

What makes you think that?
Im not doubting you im just curious in your confidence.

If I was him I would renew it also.

Im shocked that this name is not being used.
Its very short and easy to remember.

This guy does not have it for the intentions of resale like so many other common URL name owners intend.

Because the guy that owns this URL actually has a business in that category and uses his facebook page with the same name.

So maybe the guy does not know what he has.

I think the name would be in high demand.

The entire URL is only 7 letters long.
Its very hard to find any URL thats only 7 letters long with a .com these days.

On 11/21 the domain will not just become available. The owner has a lot of leeway to reup on his domain. At the same time any good domain name company will start to e-mail him 30 days before expiration date and will do so continually.

Call the guy, make a deal and get it transferred now. If you want it that bad, it's an easy choice.

Makes sense.
Ever since I launched my site only 3 weeks ago I have gotten over 5 emails from strangers offering me domain names that is close to mine.
None of the names offered to me by these people were anything I was interested in.

You make a great point.
I imagine the domain companies are ready to pounce on that URL when it comes up.
The URL is very catchy and versatile.
Its a URL that many different companies could use if they wanted to.

Not to mention that if the domain drops, there could be other people waiting just like you. If it is as good as you say, you may see the registrar pick it up and auction the domain (or even just hold onto it).

Not many 7 letter domains (that mean anything) available. Like Hotpizza says, it could be a while before it acually becomes available. It doesnt drop on that date. Too many second chances for people to hang onto it after the fact even.

I'd bet good money that it gets renewed. And if it doesn't, you will never even have a chance at it.

I think the best bet is to make an offer before it the deadline. Maybe he was going to let it go, and would rather take your offer instead of going through the hassle of renewing it and then putting it up for sale.

You also need to get signed up with a backorder service and order the domain. You only pay if you get it. I have bought several domains like that. Try pool.com.

In the end, if you really want it, you will probably be paying for it - IF it is even for sale.

If you want a better opinion, PM me the domain name. I wont divulge the name, but I can likely give you better advice. And if not, good luck. Tough world out there with domains.

I agree he will renew. Even if he doesn't use it the low cost is not worth letting it go.

Looks like he had been renewing it since 2008

I agree as well.. more than likely he will renew.. he has since 2008 and probably wont stop in case he ever decides to do the website again or ever.

I think you should just call him up and tell him you want to use his site as a re-direct to yours.. this will be a better thing to say than you want the site for your business. In other words you do not NEED his site.. but you wanted to buy it for a re-direct in case people typo.. etc (make something up like that) - IMO this will minimize what he thinks you will pay for the site and will consider letting it go.
