My sister is selling some of of the old bar equipment on EBAY and one of the first things she is trying to sell is a self contained fryer that we had. Anyways my question is that she got a bid of $2900 and that is fine, but the person who bid on it has been a ebay member since 2009 and has no feedback at all. She listed that payment would be through pay pal, so my question is, can she be scammed at all if she does get the payment through pay pal? Is there charging back or anything like that?

As long as the condition is accurate and she has proof of delivery. no

The only exception I could think of, is something people pay through payp*' as a E-check, and that takes a couple days to clear, and they can bounce. If they pay in that manner, just wait for check to clear.

Since Ebay and ****** are the same company, and she has concerns, have her call ******, and ask that question to them... She may only be protected up to X amount of dollars, im not sure, but they would be able to tell her.

If it was me, and they paid through ******, I wouldn't have many concerns.

No concerns should arise, but the fees to sell on ebay have gotten ridiculous.

Think its 13% combined, but eBay wont take more than $100 if its over $1000. PPal fees are 3% no matter...

There are a lot of scammers on eBay involving high-ticket items and low feedback totals (under 10) I would use their forums and ask these questions. Many dealers won't sell to someone with a feedback under 10.

Just make sure the money has cleared in her pay pal account before she ships the item.
Do not make the mistake many on E-Bay do & that's shipping the item before they have
the funds.

Pay pal is good on dealing with fraud. I always felt safe with safe doing any transaction thru them. There was a thread here not too long ago about customer service.

Can you post the link to her auction here so I can take a look. That's odd they have been a member that long with
0 feed-back.

for $2900 i would want to avoid people with 0 transactions/feedback

i sold a couple $400 or so items to people with 0 feedback, and they were both foreign scam artists that wanted me to ship the stuff out of the country even though i specifically said continental u.s. only...

Thanks for the feedback thus far guys. So as long as she waits for pay pal to actually put the money into her bank account, then she will be fine?

Here is the auction.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Perfect-Fry...3?pt=BI_Commercial_Fryers&hash=item1c335e3b15

only problem with that is she already has the shipping time quoted in auction as much sooner than that would be. Once the funds hits your ****** account, as long as there is no hold, I would think it is safe to send.

yeah good luck with it, if it's anything like the 0 feedback transactions i've had, it will be a big pain in the butt and will have to be relisted a couple weeks later...

there is a setting in the future where i think you can only take bids from users with 10 feedback or higher to avoid losing sleep and pulling your hair out

I have had 3 or 4 with 0 feed-back win a item I had listed & each time they
never paid. Had to file a non paying bidder report & file a report with ebay
to get my ebay fees refunded & then relist the item. :>(

Yea same here. I use to sell a lot on ebay years ago, had very few problems but whenever I did pay pal and ebay both had great customer service and handled the situation fairly. I was always happy with it

I'm going back about 9 years ago since I've done anything on Ebay. But yeah.. ^^^^ this was the case about 90% of the time.

The scam artists will open many accounts at a time. They burn one account and move onto another account that looks like they've been a member for a long time. I would make sure and buy plenty of insurance and take pictures in case they try to say it was damaged before you sent it. Once they file a complaint with ******, it will tie up the funds until it gets cleared up.

that's good that you were treated fairly

i sold a video game once to a person in illinois, shipped it to her, within a day after the auction she was emailing me asking where it was EVERY SINGLE DAY FOR 2 WEEKS. i know damn well it got delivered, but i only spent $3 on shipping media mail.

so of course she files a complaint with ebay that she didn't get it, they refunded her money immediately, she gave me the bullshit that "yeah sometimes packages get stolen around here". OH YEAH?? and yet you still don't warn me ahead of time to get delivery confirmation? so not only am i out the money for the game, and the money for shipping, i have to waste my time and energy and still get reported as someone that doesn't ship
