This just happened to me.... was suppose to leave last night. Flight was to leave at 7pm ... the Delays came in..
First at 7:45... then 8:45.. then to 10pm ... 10:42 ... 11:10 ... 11:45 ... 12:15am and it took off at 12:47am

Weather was a Mess as most know all along the East coast

So do you Ride it out ? or Cancel your plans ?

Well, if you paid for the ticket, and you're all packed, it's pretty hard to just walk away.

what is the airline offering you if anything?

I am not sure you let one day set you back to no plans.. but not sure what options are available to you either.. hmm :think2:

Yes Airline ticket paid for but No Hotel involved. ( you could lose $100 on each plane ticket )

also here was another problem in the picture.... Rental Car. Now the original plan is that you are getting in around 10:30pm .. Car Rental place closes at 1am. But now you are getting in at 3:15am ( so No Car )
I would need to take a Taxi, then get a ride or take another Taxi to pick up the Car.

I will find out what their offer is within 7 Days for the Delay.

Here is the Break down .... but you need to read the wording ( Controllable Irregularity )
so Weather probably Won't count.

The thing with Airlines that some people don't know is.... in Most cases the Plane you are taking is a Plane that just came from that Location. Meaning if you are going to Ft. lauderdale Florida from New York... that plane just came from Ft. lauderdale
It's not like the old days where they have extra Planes hanging around the Airport.
So if there is a Delay from FL .... it becomes a Chain reaction

[h=4]Departure Delays[/h] Customers whose flight is delayed due to a Controllable Irregularity are entitled to:

Delay time:Compensation amount
1:30-1:59 hours:$25 credit
2-2:59 hours:$50 credit
3-3:59 hours:$75 credit
4-4:59 hours:$100 credit
5-5:59 hours:One-way trip credit less taxes and fees
6 or more hours:Roundtrip (or the one-way trip, doubled) trip credit less taxes and fees

google this "trip in vain" if it keeps happening you may argue there is no point in making the trip and you may get a refund

This was a good read and will Bookmark it for future problems ....

JetBlue which is the Airline that I was using has waived All Fees .. I'll know within 7 days if they plan on kicking in anything.
it could have been a $200 hit on the fees

Just one of the many reasons why we use JetBlue 95% of the time.

Car Rental deposit was refunded as well... so they only thing we Lost was a Mini Vacation. :103631605

i really hate delays for sure, but if the airline is not going to work with me on canceling my ticket and charging me a fee then i guess id have to wait it out.this is one reason why i refuse to go thru atlanta anymore,i have had bad delays there and i won't go through that again.they are to me the worse airport for this kind of stuff

Depends on how much you need to be somewhere and for how long. I've certainly canceled flights and meetings but usually wait it out.

Yesterday my flight from NYC to Boston canceled. I was taking a very cute Russian girl to the Bruins game. I rented a car and drove and made the game by 15 minutes.

It just depends.

Problem is that what airports charge for drinks now, it is like 1 hour delay = $50 in the bar...

get an amex plat if you can and if it makes sense to you, you can also get a day pass in AA /delta/united lounges that costs that and you get unlimited beer

or simply accept the fact that there will ALWAYS be delays regardless or airport/airline/etc, if its not ATL , every airport in NYC is also terrible and ORD same and so on and so forth with DFW/IAH etc............if you travel enough its 100% for sure you will end up in one of these situations

AMex platinum works for you? I have the platinum, gold, plum and blue and still I never get in those damn clubs. I thought you must need the Black now.

If airlines is offering a voucher, thats when my plans change.. I always keep that in the back of my mind..I always volunteer too..I remember several years ago wife and I were in maui..airlines asked us if we would give up our seats and go on alter flight home.. we said yes..The later flight ended up getting into town about a half hr earlier then the scheduled one we were suppose to be on.. We went back the next year for free...

if it looks like this http://travel-summary.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Amex-Platinum-Card.jpg you get in American , Delta and US Airways clubs (for AA and DL you need to be flying them that day , US Airways not even that but they are merging with AA and the policies will align )

you wont get into United clubs now, I almost cried the day I read that news, I am shifting my travel to American when I can fly via Dallas just to get my free beer :p
