The Atlanta Braves managed to put back to back wins together Saturday and Sunday to salvage a split with the Los Angeles Dodgers and now move on to a series with the San Diego Padres. Atlanta is 39-24 overall and have won 17 of 23 with 7 of 9 this month and will look to Julio Teheran to provide another quality outing. Teheran is 4-2 3.30 ERA and has made tremendous improvements after posting a 7.31 ERA in his first three starts earlier in the season. Teheran is 4-2 2.13 ERA in his last eight outings and coming off the best start of his career where he had career high 9 K's and was only four outs way from a no hitter vs. Pittsburgh. Teheran has 43 K's and only eight BB's in 55 Innings Pitched and will look to be efficent again tonight vs. San Diego. Marquis is 6-0 3.28 ERA in the last six weeks and has not won seven consecutive decisions since a career high 11-0 stretch in 18 starts in 2004 while with St. Louis. Marquis spent his first four years of his career with Atlanta and is 3-5 7.69 ERA in nine starts vs. his former team with the 7.69 ERA his highest vs. any NL opponent. Uggla is .193 but did have 2 HR's and 4 RBI's in the LAD series with Freeman continuing to contribute in clutch situations. The San Diego Pitching Staff is last in the NL with 6.6 K's per game while Atlanta remains first in the NL with 9 K's per game. San Diego has a 29-34 overall record but a 16-14 Home Rcord while Atlanta is back to a above a .500 Road Record at 18-17 after this past weekend. Atlanta is 4-2 SU last six vs. San Diego but 2-4 SU last six on the road vs. San Diego. Marquis and Teheran who have both pitched extremely well in the past month should provide a good matchup in game one of the series with a start time of 10:10 PM EST. Source ESPN MLB Preview.

Uggla may be getting back into form after slumping before the LAD series. Justin Upton needs to follow Uggla's lead and have a good series as Upton has only one RBI and no HR's since May 18th. SDP's Quintin has 14 Hits in a seven game streak and SDP's Cabrera has a 10 game Hit Streak and leads MLB with 19 Stolen Bases. In fact, SDP is the most steal happy club in the National League with 58 bags snagged in 70 attempts. The under is 7 of 8 in the Braves/Padres matchup.

Two months ago I would not have thought Teheran would still be in the major leagues at this point in the season. Teheran was getting shelled hard each and every outing but somehow the Braves won his starts and through hard work and discipline has quickly matured in that time frame into a very fine young pitcher. It has been a remarkable turn around. Teheran is starting to get the K's and has really reduced his BB's giving him added confidence. Today the focus will be Atlanta -133 looking for Teheran to be sharp once again with Atlanta hopefully carrying some offensive momentum from yesterday into tonights game vs. Marquis who has struggled in this matchup in the past.
