[h=1]Chad Johnson sentenced to 30 days in jail after slapping his lawyer’s butt in court[/h]

Former NFL receiver Chad Johnson was all set to avoid jail time with a plea deal in a Broward County, Fla., courtroom. He and his attorney were on the verge of striking a plea deal with Judge Kathleen McHugh that would have Johnson avoiding the slammer despite probation violations. Last August, Johnson pleaded no contest last August to a domestic violence charge after he allegedly head-butted his then-wife, reality TV star Evelyn Lozada, during an argument. Johnson was arrested in May for failing to meet with his probation officer. Johnson had his day in court Monday morning, but things went south very quickly just after he playfully slapped his attorney on the butt on Judge McHugh's time. McHugh accused Johnson of failing to take the proceedings seriously after the entire courtroom broke out in laughter, sentenced him to 30 days in jail, and extended his probation to Dec. 21, 2013.
From the Miami Herald:
"I don't know that you're taking this whole thing seriously. I just saw you slap your attorney on the backside. Is there something funny about this?" McHugh said, slapping the plea deal document down on her desk. "The whole courtroom was laughing. I'm not going to accept these plea negotiations. This isn't a joke."
Johnson tried to apologize, to no avail. "This is your courtroom. I have no intent to make this a joke. It's not funny," Johnson told McHugh. "My life is in a shambles right now, and I try my best to laugh and keep a smile on my face."
Johnson told ESPN last Friday that he understood the gravity of his current situation, and that there was no room for error.

"I'm going to be OK," he said. "I'm OK now, but I put myself in this situation and I have to deal with everything. With life, I'm at peace with everything. I would love to finish my career off the right way. If it happens, I'm not sure. But I would like to."

Johnson played for the Cincinnati Bengals from 2001 through 2010, and for the New England Patriots in 2011. He was signed by the Miami Dolphins in June of 2012, but was released in August after his arrest. Johnson's release from the Dolphins was captured by NFL Films cameras for the "Hard Knocks" series.

"I let you down a little bit -- a lot," Johnson told Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin. " I understand what you're doing -- you got the message across loud and clear the first day we met. I [understood] what you wanted out of me and what you expected of me. I apologize for embarrassing you and this organization."

Now, Johnson has weightier issues to deal with.

This is abuse of power on this judge's part. He slapped his lawyer in the ass? Who gives a shit.

There are serious crimes being committed out there. This is a joke. That judge should be thrown out.

Also just realized the OP is calling Ocho Cinco a moron? Give a break. The only fool here is the judge.

lol. we are gonna have to disagree. This isn't the moron's first run in with the law and lets not lose sight of the fact that he was in court for DOMESTIC VIOLENCE! Ya he beat his wife. He pleads a deal and guy slaps his lawyer in the ass! WTF? Intelligence?

let's recap ....

 • in court for hitting a woman
 • gets off
 • slaps his female lawyer in the ass in front of a woman judge

Moron seems pretty spot-on if you ask me.

Scott you are perfect. Do you even live in the US. We're the ones paying taxes so the jails and prisons can hold these morons. It's stupid. It's an abuse of power and that's that.

far from perfect. Its irrelevant where I'm from or where I live.

It was a guy lawyer. So maybe that is a bad call by the judge. I thought his lawyer was a woman.

Ok King, you convinced me

far from perfect. Its irrelevant where I'm from or where I live. Maybe, just maybe, 30 days in the slammer will make him think twice next time. Its easy to second guess a judge's decision from afar but maybe a little time in the slammer will turn out to be a good thing for him. Maybe the judge saved a woman's life by doing this.

If he's that stupid to slap his lawyer in the ass in front of a woman judge when he is there for a domestic violence charge, then I have no sympathy for him. None.

Scott,

Let's review a few things. Prior to this arrest, I don't recall Ochoa being arrested. Normally, I immediately side with the female in a domestic case, but the gold-digger he supposedly headbutt has as much credibility as a Kardashian. As KON stated, this is a useless drain on taxpayers for no reason what-so-ever. I would wager heavy money Ocho doesn't getting arrested for a domestic situation again. Complete abuse of power.

Our society is already fucked up when anything a woman says against a man is seen as truth. How many men have gone to prison on false rape accusations? Things need to change in this country.

I deleted my comment after seeing the video but I guess you already were in the midst of replying so you didn't see that I did.

I think it would have been a lot worse if his lawyer was a woman. Having said that, he lost his job with the Dolphins because he hit a woman and he's getting a plea deal with a woman judge. HELLO? Anyone there?

Don't you think he should just shut the fuck up and thank his lucky stars he got off rather than slap his lawyer on the ass? Ya its a guy and he's a football player but its still courtroom after all. 30 days for being stupid might not be the worst thing for Chad in the long run.

Scott,

You are correct, I was in the middle of responding.

I do agree what he did was inappropriate for the situation, but no way does it deserve 30 days.

Think he got the 30 days for the orig CDV charge. First offense, that is the norm. He will do 21 days and be out. May actually do him some good...

Blame the other dopes in the courtroom. A judge doesn't want to "lose" her courtroom. That little butt pat didn't deserve the reaction those dopes responded with. What makes matters worse is that they appear to be court officers et al.

But I do think there would have been a better way of handling it than to slap 30 days on Dinko Cincho. That was over the top, and she's making him pay for the stupid reaction of others.

Sounds like a uptight B*tch of a Judge to me..

agree... Nothing like tax payers, paying for a guy to live in the joint for 30 days... If she really felt the need to punish him for that, just fine him - at least then some pot-holes will get filled.
