Pretty cool to watch the U.S Open this week on a course I have played about 20 times.

I love Merion Golf Course.. Too bad its gonna be wet..

Shot 76 the first time I played. Full disclosure , i was an assistant club pro in the philly area then. 1989 to 1992.

That would be very cool! I have never had a chance to play any US OPEN type courses. Closest I came was playing one of the non black beth page courses.

I did play and have played Olympia Fields...(2003 US OPEN)...

when i shot 76, it felt like i shot 56. very intimidating course.. 1989 was way before the ball and equipment was out of hand and 6500 on that track felt 7500..

As a kid I was able to go to the Open at Merion in 80 or 81 whatever year it was............ Have you ever played Aronimink? I used to sneak on there as a kid and play at twilight and raid the coolers that they had stocked with beer.

played it at least a dozen times.. doubt you can name a course in the philly area that i havent played. also played pine valley twice. was also very fortunate to have played baltustrol. shot 74 on a 90 degree day carrying my own bag, one year before the 93 open.

Good for you! Have they changed the course much over the years? Probably one of the US Open tracks I have no clue on. They are saying it will be a low scoring affair. Can't wait.....

Find it wierd that there are only 2 par 5's on the course and none on the back nine....

they've just stretched it out for the open. 18 is now 521 yards and still a par 4. will be some metal woods for 2nd shots for a lot of guys. they keep it in pretty close to u.s. open shape all the time. it is very intimidating.

Having played the course, what do you think the chances are of a hole in one this week? I know the three 240+ yards par 3's are going to be nearly impossible, but what about the 115 yards par 3? Is the +145 that a hole in one will be made worth a shot?

wouldnt shock me to see someone ace # 13 .. might be a couple of aces.

Thanks, I may take a shot at it. 115 yards seems like it could be target practice for these pros.

From what I have heard, read and saw on tv they completely shifted some of the fairways a lot closer to out of bounds. They said there were a few holes you can land the ball in fairway and it could roll OB across the road.........but this course better dry out real quick or these guys will light this place up

Def not US Open conditions with all the rain lately.......be cool to watch them play this place when the ground is so hard the ball won't stop rolling and the greens won't hold. Just hope it dries out enough to not be like Congressional in 2011. They were throwing darts there

Yep.....doesn't matter how long they make the course if the greens are soft as butter. Lets hope for some winds and then some hot weather to dry them out.

Never been so angry as I was playing this short ass course - did not catch one ball clean out of the ruff and the fairways are like 10 yards wide so I was in the ruff all day
