Tiger Woods injured after second shot at U.S. Open?

Tiger Woods may have injured his left wrist on the first hole at the U.S. Open Thursday.

Tiger was in visible pain after hitting only his second shot of the tournament out of the ridiculously thick rough on the first hole. Woods also grimaced in pain on No. 5 after another hack from the thick stuff, but is playing through the pain. The extent of the injury is unknown but it could get worse with time, or just be the effects of a stinger.

Tiger is 2-over par after 10 holes and off to slow start at the rain-soaked Merion Golf Club after play was suspended due to darkness. Weather could be a factor again Friday. Forecasts are calling for temperatures in the low-70s with a 40 percent chance of rain. Winds will blow from the north at 16 mph in the morning.

Tiger was a +550 favorite to win outright prior to the first round and has slid all the way to +1200 at some books after just 10 holes of play.

Bettors may remember when Woods limped his way through the 2008 U.S. Open with a knee injury to victory. Tiger underwent season-ending knee surgery just two days after the win.

Here are the updated outright odds heading into play Friday courtesy of UWIN:

Adam Scott +550
Phil Mickelson +550
Luke Donald +700
Tiger Woods +1200
Rory McIlroy +1600
Charl Schwartzel +1600
Lee Westwood _2000
Webb Simpson +2500
Justin Rose +2800
Graeme McDowell +2800
Steve Stricker +3300
Nicolas Colsaerts +4000
Dustin Johnson +4000
Jason Day +4000
Rickie Fowler +4000
Ernie Els +4000

Best bad weather over/under bets in baseball
By JASON LOGAN

The way the weather has been this month, players around the major leagues don’t quite feel like “The Boys of Summer”. More like the “Sultans of Soak”.

The 2013 MLB season has been plagued by cold, rain and even fog, forcing schedule makers to postpone 31 games so far – the second most cancellations by this point of the season since 2002. The 2011 campaign had 53 games shuffled due to crappy climates, with 32 PPDs as of June 12, according to John Schlegel of MLB.com.

There could be more postponements on tap this month, which has already had its share of delays and cancellations. Weather has been downright terrible in June and another rash of thunderstorms and rain is in the forecast over the next two days.

But rather than run for high ground, baseball bettors can find a way to make money off this stretch of soggy weather. If you’ve been stashing your bankroll away for a rainy day, we have six MLB stadiums that have produced value for totals bettors when the sun doesn’t shine.

Best bad weather over bets

Dodgers Stadium

That Albert Hammond was full of $hit man. The British singer once chimed “It Never Rains in Southern California”, but L.A. has seen its fair share of wet weather this spring. The Dodgers have produced a 13-5 over/under record when the forecast calls for clouds/rain. Their crosstown rivals, the Angels have also leaned toward the over in bad weather, with Angels Stadium boasting an 8-4 over/under when the skies grow dark.

Comerica Park

According to MLB.com, the Tigers have suffered through 24 postponements since 2002 – tied for eighth most in the majors. Detroit hasn’t let the cold spring climate cool off its bats, posting a 14-7 over/under count under a grey sky at Comerica Park. The Tigers are on the road this week but thunderstorms are in the extended forecast for trips to Minnesota and Baltimore.

Citizens Bank Park

The Phillies poor play isn’t the only thing keeping fans away from Citizens Bank Park. Philadelphia has had 28 postponed games since 2002 – sixth most – and has been chilled by fall-like weather to kick off the summer. The Phillies are 14-8 over/under at home when rain clouds are in the forecast. Total bettors have also gotten a life from the winds in Philly, with a 10-5 over/under record when winds get up over 10 mph.

Best bad weather under bets

PNC Park

If you think your weather’s been bad, just thank your lucky stars you’re not a Pirates season ticket holder. Pittsburgh has played 34 games at PNC Park and every single day has either been cloudy or raining, and Thursday’s home date with the Giants is no exception. The Bucs have gone 12-21-1 over/under in those games, compared to 18-13 over/under on the road where they hit .298 compared to .248 as hosts. The Pirates are expected to get hit with thundershowers Friday and may see more showers versus the Angels this weekend.

Kauffman Stadium

Kauffman Stadium was singled out for its bad weather by Schlegel, with a grounds keeper telling him, “You don't need the Farmers' Almanac. You can pretty much follow the Royals' schedule, and the rain chances increase when they come into town”. The Royals average 3.91 runs at home when the sun is shining but 3.36 when the forecast predicts clouds and rain, leading to an 8-13 over/under mark in those games.

Oriole Park at Camden Yards

Flash floods and even hail storms have terrorized most of Maryland this month, and there’s more to come this weekend. Baltimore is 7-12 over/under at home in bad weather this season and averaging just 3.95 runs in those games for compared to 6.00 under the sun. A soggy Camden Yards is also impacting visiting teams, who average 5.62 runs in nice weather compared to only 4.24 at Oriole Park.

Yankees, A's could be fades after marathon Thursday tilt

The Oakland Athletics and New York Yankees will both have depleted bullpens heading into their respective games Friday.

The A’s prevailed 3-2 in 18 innings Thursday to complete a three-game sweep of the Bronx Bombers. Both teams gassed seven pitchers in the affair.

The A’s get to sleep in their own beds Thursday night before hosting the Seattle Mariners, while the Yankees make the short trip to duel with the Los Angeles Angels Friday.

The Yankees will have a very tired bullpen against a well-rested Angels squad. New York got a lackluster effort from starter Phil Hughes Wednesday night, who pitched only 4 1/3 innings before handing the ball over. The Yankees were forced to use four relievers in the 5-2 loss to the A’s.

New York will send Andy Pettitte, who has been dealing with back issues, to the mound Friday. If his back should flare up, the Angels (-125) could be a good bet .
The A’s (-199) will send Tom Milone to the hill Friday. The lefty has pitched at least seven innings in his last two starts, surrendering only three earned runs over the pair of outings.

Hondo

Toronto Blue Jays

"Hondo rebounded from Wednesday’s wipeout by connecting with the Cards and Giants yesterday to lower the deficit to 285 ainges.
Tonight, based on the Career vs. Opp column in the Form, Mr. Aitch is giving the nod to Buehrle — 10 units on the Blue Jays mess up Texas."

2 UNIT = St Louis Cardinals @ Miami Marlins - CARDINALS TO WIN (-136)
Listed Pitchers: Westbrook vs Fernandez
(Note: I'm risking 2.00 units to win 1.47 units)

St Louis is coming off a series win vs the Mets taking 2 of 3 and they've now won 5 of their last 7 games. Over that span they've scored 46 runs (6.57 per game). The Cardinals are now 43-23 on the year and a very impressive 24-11 on the road. They head to Miami to take on the Marlins who are coming off a series loss at home vs Milwaukee which included a 10-1 loss last night. The Marlins are just 19-46 on the season and 11-22 at home. While the Cardinals sit 2nd in team batting average hitting .276 the Marlins are 29th hitting .229 as a team. The Cards have scored 329 runs to date this season (4.98 per game), while Miami is in last by over 30 runs with just 194 (2.98 runs per game). Tonight's starter for St Louis is Jake Westbrook who is coming off the DL but should be good for about 100 pitches. He is 2-1 on the season with a 1.62 ERA, .275 OBA and 1.46 WHIP. Rookie Jose Fernandez looks for another good start as he is 3-3 0n the season with a 3.17 ERA, .208 OBA and 1.15 WHIP. Tonight will be one of his toughest tests of the season against a great hitting Cardinals team. The Cards are 23-8 in their last 31 road games, 5-1 in their last 6 as a road favorite, and 8-2 in their last 10 vs NL East opponents. The Cardinals are also 8-3 in Westbrook's last 11 starts as a road favorite, and 5-2 in his last 7 starts vs a team with a losing record. The Marlins are just 11-23 in their last 34 home games, and 30-63 in their last 93 as a home underdog dating back to last season. Although Fernandez has pitched well this year the Marlins are 0-5 in his last 5 starts vs a team with a winning record. St Louis has taken 10 of their last 12 meetings with the Marlins and we are getting a good price on them tonight.
