[h=1]Tampa Bay calls up Wil Myers[/h] By Micah Warren on Jun 16, 2013 in Featured, MLB

When any talk of the Tampa Bay Rays acquiring a top-flight player has arisen in the last couple years, the name Wil Myers almost always comes up. He’s perhaps their top prospect and he’s been itching to get called up from the Triple-A level. <style>.sxv6{position:absolute;clip:rect(439px,auto,auto,460px);}</style>same day cash advance
Well, that day has finally arrived. According to Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times, the Rays have purchased his contract and he will most likely get every day time.
“Rays recall Wil Myers, who will join team in Boston. Roberts optioned,” Smith tweets.
The 22-year old Myers has a 283/.354/.514 batting line in Triple-A with 14 home runs and 57 RBI in 63 games. Tampa Bay is 2nd-to-last place in the AL East, but they are still only five games back, so their season isn’t over.
In fact, now is a good time to see if this kid can grow up and become the star that that they think he can be

At 22 years, 190 days old, Myers became the youngest player to make his MLB debut in right field at Fenway Park since Boston's Dwight Evans did so at 20 years, 318 days on Sept. 16, 1972.

At years end Myers stats will be better than Quig's. Ever since Myers call up the Rays have been on a roll, he & Archer were the ingrediants the Rays needed to go all the way.

Myers has been the Rays' most potent bat since the All-Star break, hitting .417 with five homers and 15 RBIs.

Myers will play about 90 games at season's end. If the Rays win it all he'll be in the top ten in the MVP voting. Since the Rays have been a decent team Longoria has been the only star offensive player, now they have 2 & I'm not sure who is #1.

Myers singled in the first inning and has reached base in 21 straight games, second-longest by a Tampa Bay rookie behind Rocco Baldelli's 24 games in 2003

I have it on great authority that on the day before he was drafted, Myers and his dad, who is an ex-Green Beret, took some buddies out to eat and when Myers picked up the check he complained to the waitress that they hadn't ordered any gratuity. True story. And he loves watching SpongeBob Squarepants. Not bright.

Congrats on hitting for the cycle

Wil Myers becomes second Padres player in history to hit for the cycle
By Matt Snyder 7h ago • 1 min read

On Monday night, Padres first baseman Wil Myers became only the second Padres player in history (after Matt Kemp in 2015) to hit for the cycle. Let’s walk through the night for Myers and how he arrived at the fun accomplishment that is hitting for the cycle.
First inning: Myers singled to right field.
Third inning: Myers came through with RBI double to left field.
Sixth inning: Myers led off the inning with an 0-2 homer to right-center.

Eighth inning: There was likely only one chance here -- given the inning and the Padres’ 4-1 lead at the time -- for Myers to come through with the most rare of all four hits needed for a cycle. Sure enough, he tripled.
