Michael Jordan was called greedy from time to time during his career.

Well, the Bulls’ legend has been called greedy once again – this time by a judge.

U.S. District Judge Milton Shadur called Jordan’s $5 million lawsuit against Dominick’s Finer Foods LLC “greedy” and ordered His Airness to appear in court to hash out more reasonable damages.

The Chicago Tribune reported that Jordan arrived at the Dirksen U.S. Courthouse on Wednesday.

“I think it would be a constructive use of time to see whether some element of sanity cannot be introduced into this matter,” Shadur said, according to a transcript of the May 22 hearing.

Dominick’s ran a full-page ad in a Sports Illustrated issue that honored Jordan’s induction into the Hall of Fame. The ad read “Congratulations, Michael Jordan. You are a cut above.” The ad also featured a coupon to Dominick’s.

The $5 million demand came from Jordan’s attorneys, who estimated the fair-market value on the use of his name without permission.

And despite Shadur's attempt at finding a middle ground for the parties, Jordan's lawyer says the case is headed to trial.
