Why would a sportsbook refund deposits made back to the debit card they were made on?

Nope. Know for a fact it was the book that refunded deposits back to the debit card.

This is SOP for most books. They do this to prevent theft/fraud. For example, person steals a debit card deposits money and then asks for withdrawal by other means.

Wow. I get the drift. Probably best i don't go down this road any further for the betterment of the offshore industry. And losers.

Its always been that way since day 1.
Not only debit cards but any method.
If you deposit with Neteller you would get refunded by neteller.
Been that way for 20 years.
