I believe just a casino.

A couple years ago there was one, that is before the Cocal became the Jaco hotspot. Not sure if it still exists however.... The casino there was such a small time operation that every manager would hover over you as you bet. I came up with a theory after observing roulette for awhile there that the game was fixed as it landed on red about 80% of the spins. I guess the public bets 'black'. So of course I went and pounded red with the table max bet and built up quite a stack of chips till they 'closed' the game and asked me politely to cash out. They blamed a malfunction with the wheel. This is after lowering the max. bet in the middle of a spin on me. Funny days.

Damn. Is the rain really going to be that bad?

It is hit or miss. It has barely rained the past week. Normally (90% chance this will happen) expect an afternoon shower this time of the year for a couple hours and sometimes longer. Expect this about 4-5 days a week in Jaco with 2-3 completely dry days. However, it is weather after all and anything can happen including a week of all rain or a week of no rain. If you want to guarantee no rain at all, its better to visit during the dry season of January through May. Its a nice time of the year to visit the rainforest, and I'm sure you will have a good time in Jaco.

its been weird lately, not much rain, and each province has their own forecast. Today it rained for about 2 hours in Heredia. I have friends in San Jose who say it rained earlier which is normal i guess...

Guanacaste has always had a later rain date too. Since I don't live near Jaco, I am just guessing that it is pretty much rain free for a few weeks

Enjoy your visit. I am sorry to hear about the Beatle bar, I never went there, but i have a friend back home that did..

Jaco...what a fuckin place.

Weather was a none issue. Partied our asses off with a couple working girls we met at Backyard and the Cocal all week. The chicks were much hotter than I expected.

The casino sucks thou. Rummy instead of blackjack is the most crooked thing I have ever heard of.

Glad you had a good time!

Costa Rica is not a spot for serious casino gambling (other than a couple spots in San Jose with some killer poker games).

You can find blackjack in San Jose, even dealt from a shoe rather than machine (the 2nd most crooked thing behind rummy), but its still not very entertaining as they seem to take getting beat personally.

Palacio for a VERY heavy action omaha and the Mona Lisa (old Clarion) for daily hold 'em starting late afternoon onwards... Good action there. Horseshoe is closed down but the guys who ran the game moved to Mona Lisa.
