Simplest answer is that there are just a lot more NFL players.

53 players per team in NFL vs 13 or so for NBA and 25 or so for MLB.

Also, football is more violent than basketball. Takes a certain level of sociopathy to play at that level, IMO.

Why? It's because NFL is a savage sport. Simple as that. They have higher testosterone levels than other athletes = more aggression.

A Brazilian soccer star on trial for the ghastly murder and dismembering of his former lover has for the first time admitted that he knew about her death, but denied putting a hit out on her.

Bruno Fernandes de Souza, 28, testified at his trial on Wednesday that his best friend paid someone to kill his ex-fling, model Eliza Samudio.

and even poker:

British poker champion has been jailed for 20 years after admitting to murdering his wife and leaving her body to decompose in the Colorado wilderness.

Alot also has to do with the fact that football is king in high school for a lot of people. Many athletes never had to be held accountable for their actions growing up just because they were football players. They got used to having things "taken care of" for them, whether in High School or College or both.

How come Boxers or MMA guys aren't Higher ??? a lot more Violent . NO ??

Most of those athletes don't have many breaks in training and competition as the above eluded to. However, fighters have had their share of troubles. Mayweather beats on his old lady, Jon jones wrecks his Bentley plastered, Tyson, Tim credeur arrested last week with a gun and a bunch of weed, or google "Lee Murray" or "War Machine". They could make movies about those two.

Agree with ^^this^^ as well - I think it's the culture of the game, and the shelter/protection the players get during their formidable years.

numbers explain everything

saying it's because they were treated like gods in high school is a bit silly, who do you think was looked up to more in high school, some random receiver that has the ball for 5 seconds a game (and nobody can see his face under a helmet anyway) or lebron james

I do think football players are idolized and protected more... But, that's just from my limited experience. I'm sure it depends on the situation, and I'm sure other things are involved.

Not many nba players in the past 20yrs have killed people, though - and the only one I can think of was an accident (Williams and his limo driver).

I think it is the combination of the more numbers theory and the violent sport theory.

there are more baseball players when you go down to minor league ball. But we don't know how many incidents just never make headlines. Likewise, NBA and MLB guys were all studs/kings of their high school/college so it isn't like the football guys are that much more popular. perfect storm for violent crimes.....i bet if you looked at other crimes like DUIs and tax frauds the numbers wouldn't stagger too much across the sports
