Chipper Jones gave the Braves a little pep talk Friday night during his Jersey Retirement Ceremony and the results have been good as the Braves have taken the first two games of this series with Atlanta breaking yesterday's game open scoring seven runs in the eight inning. Atlanta now has won four of last five batting .307 with six HR's and 14 doubles. Yesterday was the first time in the month of June the Braves hit double digits in runs and Atlanta would love to see another great day at the plate looking for a Sunday sweep of the D Backs. Maholm is 8-6 3.25 ERA overall this season but is 4-2 1.80 ERA in six home starts. Maholm will seek to have another quality home outing this afternoon and hopefully receive the run support similar to what Atlanta provided on Saturday. Cahill is 3-0 4.29 ERA overall this season but is 0-5 7.34 ERA in last seven outings with opponents batting .329 in that time frame. Cahill has failed to get through six Innings pitched five times this month and lost both starts in this matchup last year allowing 13 runs in 10 Innings Pitched. Jason Heyward has hit eight doubles this month and Dan Uggla is .350 average in last five games. Arizona slugger Paul Goldschmidt is only .120 average in eight career games at Turner Field. Pollock however was a shot in the arm for Arizona yesterday and Cody Ross is scheduled to be in the D Back lineup today. Maholm cannot afford to overlook Pollock and Ross today. Arizona has now lost five of six and 12 of 15 at Turner Field so Atlanta with Maholm's good home stats are in a good situational matchup vs. a struggling Cahill. A win today would put the capper on an emotional and historic weekend at Turner Field. Game time today is 1:35 PM EST with weather maybe an issue at time with summer thunderstorms possibly lingering in the Atlanta area. Source: ESPN MLB Preview.
