I don't think either is completely unreachable. They're not like 511 or 56...

I wouldn't be shocked to see either HR record toppled in my lifetime.

I can't see the single season record in danger. The career record could go with a guy that starts young, plays into his 40's, remains injury free and has protection in the lineup.....maybe a Puig type if everything falls in place perfectly for 20 years.

How can you discount cabrerra at all? He is on course to blast the record in 9/10 or so years

-murph

he'd have to average about 40 a year for 10 years, but he has as good a shot as anyone. That's still only 2 guys.

yeah I could see a guy like Bryce Harper or Mike Trout making the run at it, they started early and could be absolute beasts for a decade, and then stick around and play till they are 43-45

single season? no way

Griffey had a shot at it, A-Roid looked like a lock.

Anyway you slice it you have to come close to 40 a year for 20 years, it will likely be broken in the next 50 years by somebody that manages to play for 25 seasons.

if Mike Stanton can be healthy and have longevity, he already is up there as quickest to 100 HR's and things like that...

Arod 647 age 37 , Lets say he doesn't play again this year, but plays 120-140 games for the next
4 years ... and retiring at age 41 ( maybe even with a stint at dh )

LETS SAY he averages 25 a year for 4 years, that puts him a little short, BUT , since he is signed
for that time , chances are he will be playing. He could do it ...but I would say NO -300

Pujols 488 at age 33 ... ( prob closer to 36 ) if he really is 33 , then he does have a legit shot
eventhough his numbers dropped off signifigantly the last 2 years , if he can average 30 a year , and
play 7 more years, that puts him in the neihborhood of 700. I would say NO -350 ish

Another legit shot is Miguel Cabrera , at age 30 and already with 345 HR under his belt , and assuming the last
9 years hehasnt missed more then 10 games in any one season, and already has 24 this year,
with the way he sees the ball and hits when it counts, i can see him easily putting up another 350 in
the next ten years, which also puts him in the ballpark ... NO -350

Those are the 3 best shots as I see it ....

as for 73 ... I highly doubt it , unless some new undetectable enchancement comes out , or the balls
get LIVE overnight.

A-Roid would hit 15-20 a year max IF he ever plays again. He wants to retire before he gets suspended for 100 games so he can get the 100 million or so left on his contract. he has zero chance of breaking this record. no should be -9000

Pujols and Cabrerra are the only two veterans with a shot.

That record will fall someday, but not within 10 years.
