It's no secret that I have been a huge fan of Weidman for quite some time. I've wanted this matchup since Weidman was brought to the UFC. With that being said, I wish he would've fought in December before being able to take this fight. More rounds in the Octagon would've been highly beneficial, and now he's coming off an injury to boot. With all that said, he could be a matchup nightmare if there ever is one for Silva. I haven't kept up with Silva's training camp for this one(I would assume he's ready considering Munoz is fighting on this card as well), but I have kept up with Weidman's as it hit close to home. Ending last week, he brought in Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson (my former kickboxing trainer) for a week and a half to train with a world class striker that brings it from every angle. The Wonderboy may be new to the UFC, and lack some wrestling and ground game (can't hurt to train with Weidman on this), but he is by far an elite striker as the UFC will ever see. Weidman wants to concentrate on catching Silva when he tries a flashy kick or move and shoot for the takedown. No surprise, huh. Weidman is a quick learner, and his stand up is improved, so he could trade a little with Silva, but I don't think he wants to spend much time in the clinch. Odds tell me this one ends in mid to late Round 2, or early round 3, which should mean The Spider by stoppage. It's no secret that Silva has been wanting to retire for some time. Hell, he pondered the idea almost 10 years ago. I don't think the UFC would allow maybe it's best fighter ever to go out with a loss, muchless a KO. But, who knows, this won't be Silva's last fight anyways. These are very low odds for Silva backers, but I'm gonna stick to my guns and roll with Weidman +180 here. I'm in a hurry ATM, but I will be breaking this fight down further, along with the rest of the card. It is a good card all around. I will most likely be pounding Tim Kennedy -150. everyone have a great 4th and enjoy the extended weekend...
